I cannot get rid of AMbient Display while charging. The instructions direct me to DIsplay>Advanced>Locked Screen>Ambient Display ... However, in my XZ1 Compact with Android 9.0 there is no such menu?? Any suggestions please
Hi @wicks21,
The Xperia XZ1 Compact does not have the feature called Ambient display so I'm not quite sure what the behaviour you are experiencing is.
Do you mean that the screen is always turned on when you are charging the device? There is a setting in the developer options of Android that will turn the screen on when it's charging so please have a look in Settings > System > Advanced > Developer options. Turn off the setting called "Stay awake".
Let me know if that helps and if I misunderstood your question, please do elaborate a bit on what you see on the screen when the device is charging.
hi Jonas, thanks for your reply.
It is something from Google by the look of it. It is a skinlike screen with time and charge % etc but it hets in the way of other notifications. I think I may have accidentally accepted something Google pushed to me - this is "Ambient Theme"
Incidentally I do not have developer options in my settings menu.
Thanks
Hi again @wicks21,
Thank you for the information!
I remember I had something similar when I had some strange third party application installed a while back. Can you try and restart your device in safe mode and see if it the same? In safe mode only the pre-installed applications will be loaded so we can easily see if one of them is the cause of this.
I don't think that Google would push something like this as they don't have such a feature, but I can of course be wrong.
Let me know if there is any change in safe mode and we'll take it from there!
hi Jonas, I figured it out - it is a setting in Google Assistant. I think for some reason Google popped up an option to switch it on and I acidentally accepted it. All good now, rid of that nuisance!
Thanks for your responses.
Hi again @wicks21!
Oh, I see, thanks a lot for this information!
I don't use Google assistant that much since it's quite new here in the Nordics, at least to trigger it on our local languages. I'll keep this in mind in case I see anyone else asking about this.
Thanks a lot for sharing this and have a fantastic day!
