Z5 Premium headphone socket broken.

Hi,

I've had my Sony Z5 Premium for about 3 months now, and this morning the headphone socket stopped working. When I start playing music it works, but if I touch the headphone wire at all the music stops playing. At first I thought this was a broken pair of headphones, so I tried another pair, it seems I can make the music stop playing even by touching the frame of the device. I think the phone believes that the headphones have been removed when they haven't and hence it stops playing the music.

Booting into Safe Mode doesn't fix the problem, and different headphones all show the same problem too. Do you think I can get it repaired by Sony under warranty?

Thanks,

Andy.

PS: I notice in other sections of this forum that the Z3 had a similar issue. You'd think with the heritage that Sony has in the portable music player space they'd be able to get this bit right!

Was reading on some other discussions that's it's a major software bug, not hardware

It looks like some switch than let the phone notice the headphones are connected didn't work, or something like that, it could be a minor hardware problem, or a major software I'm not sure!

Ladies and gents,

It would appear this is certainly a hardware issue, the part of the socket that recognises the earphones being plugged in, seems to stop working, I am going to strip the socket down to see what the issue is, (some mechanical part failure or bending of contacts i would guesstimate) i will post all findings here. Although the software mod works in that it forces your device to use the headphone socket as it's output and credit to the software creator, it doesn't appease the fact that evidently Sony have an issue with their headphone socket. I too had a faulty one after only three months, and I purchased an OEM part and you can still see the light through this one too. Now mine has gone fault again after only a few weeks. After twenty years as an electro-mechanical design engineer I find this rather poor from a company with normally such a good reputation. Sort it out Sony, do a recall on the headphone socket...more to follow with pics on findings
