Z3 unable to mount 64GB micro SD card

Hi All,

my new xperia z3 unable to mount my working 64GB mico SD card. the phone detected that the file format is different and prompt to format. But after formatting, it is still unable to mount the card. I tried this 64Gb card on PC and it is working. I tried mounting a 32Gb card on the Z3 and working too.

Hey just to inform how I solved the problem-maybe not the same with 'damaged' problem.

My problem was that my z3c didn't mount the 64g sd card. (seemed that it recognized the card, but couldn't do anything to mount it)

It was Samsung MICROSDHC 64G EVO UHS-I CLASS10, and it worked well on other devices, also other sd cards worked on my z3c.

Here's what I did to make it work.

1. Wipe disk (one&zero), using MiniTool partition wizard.

2. Make a single partition within it (FAT), and make it 'Primary'

3. Format the disk in Windows, as exFAT and default cluster size.

4. Reboot the phone and insert the card when it starts to boot.

I don't know how it solved, but this is what I did.

Same/Similar issue here.

Brand new Z3, i was using an 8gb micro SD on my Blackberry10 device. It was almost full so i purchased a new 16GB and transfered everything from the 8GB to the 16GB one, if i try to take a picture to save in the SD it will give me a Memory Error.

If i try to delete a file using File Commander it wont do anything, wont allow me. If i put the 8gb SD back in it takes the photo fine and allows me to edit/delte files in File Commander.

Please help

Encountering the same issue. I have a 64gb micro SD card in my Z3 that worked for around a week before corrupting while i was downloading content from Audible.

Extracted the card and reformatted (losing all the previous data) before replacing the audio files originally on it (using the Media Go software).

Now when attempting to mount the card my Z3 reads "preparing SD card"... and does nothing else.

Any word from Sony on this? Reading various forums, it's a common enough issue.

Ebay is full with Fake Cards. Use real Brands like Samsung, Sony, or Sandisk. No Bulk

Our developers have investigated this but have been unable to find any issues with 64GB cards and the support for microSD. Although we understand the trouble some users have with this issue, the company has taken the decision not to go any further with this case until we are able to replicate the issue.

If you have issues with your microSD i recommend that you try your phone with another microSD and also test the microSD that's not working using a test software such as H2testw. If you suspect this is an issue with your phone, please contact your local support team or a service location for assistance.

Very disappointing to hear and not really an acceptable answer from Sony. As I have stated multiple times, the SD card I am trying to use works perfectly on Windows and Mac computers and is recognized by a Samsung Galaxy S4. I have reformatted it dozens of times using the phone and 3rd party apps, including all the ones recommended in this thread with the same results. Clearly there is a problem here Sony and it should be addressed. The SD card I had is not counterfeit and it was not bought from eBay. It was purchased directly from PNY on Amazon. This is my first and will be my only Sony phone purchase due to these issues.

Had the same problem this was happening with every sd card I inserted, for some reason I restated my z3 with SD still inserted and when it came back on it worked fine...

Hi everyone.

I'd just like to add my voice to the others and say I'm also experiencing this issue.

I have a 64GB Samsung Evo which when first put in my phone was working fine. I copied some music from the internal storage onto the SD card and started noticing problems with the playback of some songs. Opened in windows explorer and noticed some album folders were full of these strange alphanumeric files - so I wiped the SD card to start from scratch.

That's when the problems started. Can't mount the SD card, can't seem to erase it or do anything with it at all now. I checked in my old Samsung Ace 2 and after a reformat with their software the SD card worked perfect on there, so the fault is with Sony here.

I'm willing to provide any more info if needed so long as a solution can be found. Once again this appears to be an issue purely with the Sony device, so I don't think the case being dropped is acceptable considering everyone here is a paying customer.

Thanks
