Hi folks, I've had my Z3 Compact for exactly one week now. It's been a fantastic little device that I would have recommended to anyone. Not anymore. Yesterday I took it in the pool for the first time. I double and triple checked that the port covers were firmly closed and carefully went underwater to take some pictures of the kids. It was never underwater more than 1 or 2 feet.
It died in less than 5 minutes. I watched it happening. The screen started flickering on and off, then the buttons stopped working, and now it won't turn on at all. When I got out of the pool and dried it off, I checked under the port covers and sure enough, the lower one where the SIM card goes had visible moisture inside.
I'm seriously mad...this phone was advertised as being waterproof down to 1.5 meters. Sony's own homepage shows pictures of people swimming with it. And yet mine got water damaged in 1 foot of water after 5 minutes. This is completely unacceptable. I've contacted Sony support as well as the website wher I bought it (Handtec UK). Somebody IS going to replace this or I'll raise **bleep**. I didn't pay $500 for a waterproof phone just to have it die in the water!
So beware, fellow Z3c owners. Your phone may not be as waterproof as you were lead to believe.
bro ..this is what the same happen to my z3 compact ..but u have even used it in swimming pool but mine i just washed under tap for 2 sec only finaly its totaly dead....:) ..sony telling no warranty for liquid damage ....now i turned to samsung s5
Will they cover the damage by the manufacturing warranty? I bought an international phone, so I had no warranty. Then it died right after the day I bought it. I already sent my phone back to SONY, but I am not sure if they will charge me to fix it. Please provide me the info.
Thank you for sharing your story. Devastatingly, mine is EXACTLY the same. Had the phone one week, LOVED it, checked carefully and read all the instructions about closing flaps etc before taking it in the pool for 3 minutes in less than a foot of water to take a holiday snapshot. It said it was overheating and the camera would close. Then it died. In less than 5 minutes. I logged on via my laptop to check for similar stories and was somewhat relieved to find this one but am absolutely desperate to hear if you were able to get a replacement phone from Sony and what that experience was like. Thanks for any support or advice.

Sorry to hear this but you would need to contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/
Here is to fill your hands from a previous model: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Compact/Water-damage-sony-xperia-z1-compact/m-p/640721/threa...
It appears that the Z1 compact is far from being as waterproof as was advertised. I'm sorry to say this, but I see a class action suit coming your way SONY. You cannot simply lie in your ads and get away with it.
Interestingly no SONY moderators ever comment on these threads.
.
Same issue with all the z models it seems...
Hi! I understand that this post was since last year. I have a Z3 that's less than 3 months old which just recently died on me. I've been able to use it while in water for a period of time before so I took it with me to the pool earlier today. I didn't submerge the phone when I took a photo, but my hands were wet. After being able to successfully take a photo, I put it back on the table (FAR AWAY from the pool).
After some time has passed, I was already unable to wake up the screen (through the double tap). But ALL the phone's external buttons are still working. After some research, my boyfriend discovered that the Z3 isn't as waterproof as it's advertised.
Now, I'm terribly sorry for the extra information, but I was thinking how much you paid for the repair?
Thank you.
Mine DIED too. Im very sure i double checked to close both flaps very tight, went into the kid pool (maybe it's just like 30cms deep) to test it first, then it died in less than 5 minutes. Is there any hint to fix it alone by myself? I had put it in plastic with silica gels and let it dry for like 3 days but it still don't work. I'm from Indonesia and i hear sony center's service quality here is worst, better try to fix it by myself first.
