So I was helping a friend with his Z1, which wasn't reading the sim card. Looking around I saw someone fixed it by doing a software repair using PC Companion. Half way through the software repair, it stopped with an error, and now the phone gives me the "The software update failed. Make sure your phone is connected to the computer and try again." error when I try to turn it on. If I try to charge it or connect it to the computer, it turns itself on and off constantly with the same error, which doesn't let me do anything.
Any help would be appreaciated.
Hi @overnight11,
Welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear about this issue.
Because the software repair was interrupted, only part of Android will be installed right now.
If you were using PC Companion, I recommend you uninstall it and perform the software repair using Xperia Companion.
If you experience a similar issue, try another USB cable and/or another USB port in the computer.
Thanks guys, I managed to make it boot again using the software repair option. However, the phone still doesn't read the sim card. Should I make a new thread about that?
It's fine we can troubleshoot it in this thread.
Are you able to try another SIM card in the phone? It could be that the SIM card itself is faulty.
I have tried a different sim card on this phone, and it doesn't work either, so that's not the problem.
When I insert the sim card, the phone restarts, but I get No service/Service unavailable.
I'm out of ideas on what could be the cause of this problem.
how about setting the network type to gsm only or wcdma only
Didn't help 😕
I have been trying and the phone does read the sim card. It shows me the different service providers, but can't connect to them, and if I insert a card with a pin code it asks for it.
