Z1 Compact battery problem,

My Z1 Compact bought just over a year ago has developed a battery/power management problem, and the advice I have been able to find has not helped. What happens is that it charges ok, and then lasts some hours of even quite heavy use - but when it hits some point between 20 and 40 per cent full, it suddenly goes to 1 per cent and shuts off until it has been recharged.

I have done the hard restart using the power and volume button together, and used PC Companion to complete a by-software repair, but nothing I have done has helped.

Is this a recognised problem that I can fix in some easy way, or do I have a hardware problem please? If it's the latter, who should I go to to get it fixed? And what should I use/buy to stay online in the meantime please?

Thanks, Blackfriarsboy

@Blackfriarsboy

That seems like a hardware problem as the Z1 was released 2+ years ago, contact your Local support to get it inspected.

I've been having the same issue for about 4-weeks and cant find any way to solve it. It can happen at any charge level and will suddenly got to 1% followed by the low charge notification then powers off. I've had the phone about 20 months and still running the stock 4.4.4 Android. Thought it might be an app update that was at fault but if it is I can't for the life of me work out which one

@uliwooly

Can you guarantee that it is the hardware problem?

@XperiaNow Is there something that prompts you to ask that question please? Blackfriarsboy

@uliwooly Thanks. I did do the repair thing with PC Companion.

Have messaged the local support folks. If it's a hardware fault, I hope it's not too expensive...

@uliwooly

I did so at least a dozen times in last 2 months. In last two days I flashed my z1c using Flashtool at least 5 times with Android 4.4.4, 5.0.2 and two sub-versions of 5.1.1 and nothing helped. During the last two months, I have now exhausted all official software options which exist. There is nothing I can do with official (stock) software that would help.

@Blackfriarsboy

I tried everything regarding installation of the official (stock) software. There are three options left: to try unofficial software (custom ROM), go to the service center for the battery replacement and buy a new phone. The first one is risky but costs nothing and the remaining two options cost money. This is why I asked uliwooly whether he is certain that it is the hardware problem because it doesn't pay off to go to the service center and say "My phone doesn't work properly!". They will inspect the phone and tell that the phone works within manufacturer's specifications.

Is that what they told you?
