Xperia Z5: Unable to connect to home wifi

Hi, I can't seem to connect to my home Wifi, whenever I connect it keeps saying "Connected, no internet" and I've tried forgetting the network as well as resetting the router but nothing seems to work. I can connect to other Wifi networks fine with no problems but only with my home Wifi network is where I have this problem? I've tried booting into safe mode as well and connecting to the network after forgetting it but still it doesn't connect. Not sure what else I can do to try and fix this problem?

Hi @MrN,

Is your router broadcasting 2.4GHz or 5GHz? People who have had similar issues with this have seen results by changing the router to 5GHz.

To expand what CameronT already explained, if you got a dual band router, you may want to try disabling first the 2.4ghz band and trying to connect. Then disabling the 5ghz band and connecting again. If that somehow fix the issue try to stick to the band that offer better performance and stability. In my personal case with Bluetooth enabled the best bet is to stick to the 2.4 rather than the 5ghz band but your case may be different.

So how does changing the router settings work when its not your router then?

Are you saying that wi-fi is only available to experia phone users where you have access to change the router settings to suit your phone. Going to cause a big problem in the big wide world that one. Next time I go into starbucks I'll ask them to let me logon to their router, shall I?

Hi, I'm not sure what frequency it is broadcasting on. I'm using a Sky hub router and I'm not sure where to look on the wireless settings for the sky hub router?

Edit: I have found out it currently broadcasts on 2.4GHz but have not found a way to change it to 5GHz

I'm with BT and it has a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz setting. All well and good but I have no idea what, for instance, Starbucks use.

Thats my point - I can't go into there and ask them to change their router settings. This may well fix a problem at home but I'm going to end up with a phone that may or may not be able to use other wi-fi locations. Not great.

Any changes have to come at the phone end - this is the only bit I have control over.

Otherwise, I can see no mileage at all in keeping a Z5 phone if wi-fi is important (it is to me). Completely pointless phone.

Get a Wifi Analyzer from the App store so you can check which channels are being used or cluttered.

I use this rough guide:

If I am far away from the router: I should use 2.4G

If there are lots of concrete walls in between the router and my phone: I should use 2.4G

If there are lots of electrical appliances in between the router and my phone: I should use 5G

If there is a microwave being used anywhere near the router or my phone: I should use 5G

If I need fast connection: I should use 5G

There's lots and lots of different problems with networking, trying to find them can be a pain in the **bleep**.
