Xperia Z3 looses Wifi connection when connected to TV via MHL

Hello,

I recently bought an MHL adapter to connect my Xperia Z3 to my HDTV.

Works fine, except one detail: whenever I connect the Phone to the TV, the Xperia drops its Wifi conncetion.

I noticed this when my mobile data limit was reached after 3 minutes of Amazon Video and my mobile provider slowed down my mobile data speed...

Is this a defect of my Xperia Z3 that I need to have fixed by Sony? Is it a general issue all Xperia Z3 have?

Regards,

Freddy

Hi @FredvonR

I don´t think this is an issue from your Xperia Z3.

If it is a problem with your device, this should also happen when you are connected to another Wi-Fi networks.

I'm at disposal for any question.

Definitively is a problem with your device.

I've also the cable MHL-HDMI and works fine. Even with wifi connected.

Hello,
I have the same problem as FredvonR.

@OndTaOpao can you stream videos from YouTube without loosing your Wi-Fi connection and that without mobile data?

I never tried MHL before and just bought the adapter (from a Market for 24,99€) to test it. Then at home I tried it out, it worked flawless (it even shows that I'm connected to Wi-Fi) , I watched few movies (already downloaded) from the app Sony My Videos. No lags nothing. Then after the movie I wanted to watch YouTube videos, when I open the app the loading symbol shows up and then after a time it loses the connection and YouTube says it's an network connection error. When I open Chrome, it takes a while to load the Google page and when I search for something then I get the same error.

After this I tried all that with a Xperia Z and Xperia Z3+. They can stream 1080p even the Xperia Z. So the only possibilities I can think of is that the MHL adapter is really not compatible with my Xperia Z3 or there is an error in my android version (5.1.1 Build Number: 23.4.A.1.232).

I also tried everything like airplane mode, safe mode, 2 different HDMI cables one is 1,5m and the other 3m, 2,4GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi and when I do a speedtest the download rate drops till there is no connection. The only thing I didn't try is a different MHL adapter, because I don't want to spend money on it if there is something wrong with my Z3.

And I also noticed that the Sony TV Launcher doesn't start? I read that it starts automatically. Does that only work with a Sony TV or why?

Here same firmware (23.4.A.1.232). I bought the cable adapter from ebay.

Mine is working fine with Sony Tv and also with diferent brands.

Now with this cable I already used in hotels when I'm in travel and works very well.

I can say with my steps: Connect the cable to the Tv and after to the Z3, the aplication starts automatically.

Well, the last point for me is that I don't have any issue with wifi connection. I use VLC (which is great when you store the movies in the smartphone), but I also use spotify, youtube, soundcloud... but 60% of the time I use the Kodi which uses the Wifi connection and till now is working great. My guest is probably the cable. But never knows... could be the Z3.

Try to test it in a Sony store!! They normally help you Winking_Face

I also have the same problem, but I discovered something, when you call to this code *#*#7378423#*#* and go to service test, scroll down to TV out test, change the resolution to 720*346 (I´m not sure if this it) and The wifi works fine but obviusly the resolution is bad, I was talking with a man and he told me that maybe can be the hdmi cable(the version).

But I don´t understand why any support member respond this topic this is Really Important!

I´m almost sure that is the cable, because I had the same problem with my old xperia S.

So I´m going to try a new cable.

Sorry for my bad English!

@Joxperia With your test I believe that is a problem with the cable.

Your cable don't support 1080p resolution.

You guys need to buy a good quality cable! It's very important.

e.g.

Mine is this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331530226954

@Joxperia mine Z3 shows me that the resolution is (N/A), if I change it, it's still (N/A) but my TV shows me that the resolution changed. I tried them all but it still loses Wi-Fi connection.

@OndTaOpao thanks for sharing, I ordered it already and it will be here between 23rd and 26th. If that doesn't work then there must be something wrong with my Xperia Z3. When I get it and try it out, I will update you.

Edit:

I got the new MHL cable today and it works. I'm really happy that nothing is wrong with my Z3 and I'm also really thankful to you @OndTaOpao.
