Hello guys,
I'm a bit confused as to the existance of oleophobic coating on Z series phones. I know that since Z2 the pre-applied shatter proof film is not present any more, which was made of plastic and is very prone to fingerprints and smearing. Yet there are quite a few reviews that specifically mentioned that Z2 has a problem with smearing and the phone is a real fingerprint magnet. They can't both be correct, right?
My girlfriend has a Xperia SP, which is otherwise a good phone for the price range, but the screen is terrible when it comes to smearing. My own Z3 Compact seems to attract some fingerprints, but they are quite hard to see and when the screen is on, you don't notice them at all. So I would say that SP definitely doesn't have oleophobic coating, but Z3 series does.
What about Z2 then?
I can't find any "official" information that Z2 or any other Xperias has this Oleophobic coating, although it seems it's there. From my experience with Sony phones, they are resistant to finger prints compared to normal glass.
Sony midrange phones DEFINITELY do not have that coating, for example the aforementined SP. I tried M2 Aqua in the stores and that one also doesn't have it.
I've used Z1, Z2, and Z3 dual. And I never has drastic smudging and fingerprints on them even when no screen protectors were attached.
