Wow! I just had a look at this forum and i'm not so sure if I want to get a Z1 anymore. They seem to have lot of problems.
My question is: Which problems occur on all devices and wich ones occur only on some of them (few %).
Talking about: bad pictures, lag when filming, overheat, bad wifi and so on..
When I read this forum it seems to be the worst phone ever made in history. I dont know if I should believe everything that had been said here??
What do you think, that people are kidding or lieing? Everything is a real problems that we have with this phone! Display - if not yellowish than dead (some cases both), picture quality from the camera, battery life .... and so on! I understand that it all may be because of the software, but nobody is saying a word about it (the stuff I mean)!
Well I thought that maybe your phone has one problem and the phone of somebody else has another one because of bad conception. What I meant is that its hard to believe that every single Z1 units have all these problems on them. If they do this would mean a serious mess up by sony. So I guess now that every Z1 buyers must be very angry.. I think i'm going to get a Note 3 instead of a z1. Anyways thanks for the reply!
As far as i know, from the past 10 days having the Z1, theres no such problems on my device regarding either video lags, battery drains, wifi disconections, and problems on display. I mean none at all, maybe on the initial FW when i got it seemed to be a bit laggish.
Now im on FW 14.1.G.1.534 which was updated last week and i must say i noticed better performance regarding battery drainage, even better graphics performance for games (benchmarked both FW's).
As i mentioned i havent noticed none of the issues stated here. My battery, with full web browsing and a 15 minute gaming session (non 3d game), lasts up to day.
There's no significant heat issue either, actually i noticed that playing Real Racing for 15 minutes or more (high-end 3d game) start to heat up for the 1st 5 minutes and than drops from 50 degrees to around 46. Im a serious gamer and thats the main reason i bought it and im very happy with its performance, but get real guys its just a PHONE.
Now the only issue that's been buggin me from day one is the camera (pfff), i ve been shooting pics from day one on both FW's and the only thing changed with the .534 release is that superauto takes better pictures on good light conditions than before but even worst when shot in low light, where on the other hand manual got worst on good light condtions producing darker pics but far more realstic on low light conditons.
Hopefully theres going to be an update tha will show the raw power of this device.
I've had this phone for around 10 days also and i've got to say it's a great phone, yes there are a few problems.. but (as long as they are sorted with some sort of software update) i wouldn't let them hold you back from getting the phone.. I guess you will never know until you actually get one.
My battery life.. so far so good, the screen can take up a fair ammount of the battery, but with the size of it, im not too suprised. It seems to last a day (depends on how much you use it etc, seems about the same as every smartphone i've had in the past). On standby though i barely notice the battery go down atall.
I think it's unfair to rate the battery at the moment (for me anyway) as with it being new, i am using it alot more than my previous phone during the day.. so that would make the battery go down quicker.
Video lags.. not noticed any problems so far
Wifi problems.. not noticed any problem here also, there is a battery saving function to disconnect mobile data / wifi when you are below 20%, that's the only time i noticed it disconnecting.. but i've turned that off now.
Display problems, nope the display is awesome (one of the main reasons i went for the phone.. coming from an iPhone 4, the iPhone seems like to toy comparing the size)
Over heating.. same as "phone-user", if i've been playing a high end game.. then it can get hot quickly, but other phones would do this also. I'm sure things can only get better with updates.
And onto the camera, I can see that it has great potential and also another big reason i got the phone.. In day light it can be a fantastic camera, same with close up shots in low light.. but a normal photo in low light e.g. a photo of people in a bar.. it can produce a hit and miss image. I am hopefull this can be solved in a future software update.
I can see great potential in this phone (the speed, the screen, the camera etc), i hope the software updates contiune to come to help some small problems.
All these problems stated here are software related issues, Sony rushed out Z1 to get ahead of the game.
I recently received my Z1 after having my initial Z refunded due to the dead pixel/dust issue.
The Z1 imo requires the below fixes and it seems common across all Z1s :-
1) Camera performance - Day performance is reasonable but night performance is currently a joke
2) WIFI - Very poor performance e.g. where my tablet/laptop/second phone can get between 2-3 bars, the Z1 is struggling to get a connection
3) Battery, despite the larger battery it does drain rather quickly with medium usage
All of these are seemingly fixable with software fixes, particularly 1/2 and I think part of the concern is that we have not seen any comments from Sony stating whether these have been duplicated in their results and a fix is being put together as we speak.
Although some guidance about a 4/5 step procedure to help with the desire to take reasonable night time photos - automate this please and build it into the auto mode. Given this is a £600-650 phone, I don't think the Z1 community is asking too much given the faith/loyalty shown to Sony by buying the first batch of Z1's on pre-order.
On a more positive note, the rest of the phone is great. It feels more substantial/better built than the Z and has the typical Sony thought/touches across the Android OS. I just can't help thinking I would rather have waited another week to have a firmware that resolved the obvious bugs listed above.
The hardware is pretty sound, most of the problems are just software issues which Sony needs to sort out - and hopefully is sorting out.
