Xperia z1 not being detected!

As with some other posters, my phone is now not being detected via the USB on my PC. There is obviously a drivers fault. 

My Pc lists it under devices with the exclamation mark but when i try and update the drivers it says I don't have access. I have tried numerous things suggested in other forums, I have tried another cable, tried uninstalling the driver under device manager but when it tries to reinsitall it just says i don't have access. I have switched it between MTP and mass storage device and then back again. The exclamation mark will just not go away and PC companion will not recognise it. I have tried other USB hubs, other cables - it is driving me nuts!

I am reallty not impressed, this is my first android phone and first Sony and I am on handset number three after various faults. I am not a computer whizz kid and really regretting the switch to android! I basically now have a phone I can't back up!!! 

I should add I recently updated my software to version 4.4.2 - no idea if that is kitkat, jellybean or all the other silly names. But it is not the irritating version where quick settings are no longer quick settings!!

I managed it because at one point my phone did connect to my PC - this was a new problem.

I assume the problem for me was also the missing media player, like the other poster I don't really know why this was needed but anyway.

My back up was from earlier in the year then the PC stopped being able to read my phone. In an effort to fix it I managed to muck my computer up and had to take it to the repair shop.

Now I have the PC back and I specifically asked them to save my back up. They did that and that was why I was struggling to get it back onto the phone as the back up was no in PC companion.

I will try what you are suggesting, I think I just got so frustrated I lost the will to live.

PC compaion just seems bulky and cumbersome most of the time, I do miss Itunes and Icloud!
