Xperia z1 not being detected!

As with some other posters, my phone is now not being detected via the USB on my PC. There is obviously a drivers fault.

My Pc lists it under devices with the exclamation mark but when i try and update the drivers it says I don't have access. I have tried numerous things suggested in other forums, I have tried another cable, tried uninstalling the driver under device manager but when it tries to reinsitall it just says i don't have access. I have switched it between MTP and mass storage device and then back again. The exclamation mark will just not go away and PC companion will not recognise it. I have tried other USB hubs, other cables - it is driving me nuts!

I am reallty not impressed, this is my first android phone and first Sony and I am on handset number three after various faults. I am not a computer whizz kid and really regretting the switch to android! I basically now have a phone I can't back up!!!

I should add I recently updated my software to version 4.4.2 - no idea if that is kitkat, jellybean or all the other silly names. But it is not the irritating version where quick settings are no longer quick settings!!

Install PCC or SUS > restart your PC > try again

I have installed both of these. PCC updated tonight but it was not detecting my phone before the update either.

I installed the SUS and my software is up to date.

Any other suggestions? Do i have to uninstall them both and start again?

I have Windows 7.

I have used the SUS and reinstalled the new software, losing lots of data on the way as I had no way to back it up.

I am plugging the phone into my PC, it makes the ting noise that something is connected. I then get a little box from PCP tellin me my Sony Xperia is connected and to click to open PC companion. I then do that and it tells me no phone is connected.

It is now suggesting I uninstall PC companion and then re-install it but will that not mean I lost my back up taken two months ago that I am trying to psync this phone with?

My phone now has nothing on it and I cannot even connect it to the PC Companion, I have no clue how to fix it and really jusy wish I still had Icloud and a phone thaty did what it is meant to!! (ie an iphone!) Crying_Face

Hi there,

Try the following:

"To solve the issue, open Device Manager on your computer to reinstall the driver for your device while your device is connected with your PC via a USB cable.

To open Device manager on your computer
Click on the Start button.
In the Search box, type device manager, and then press enter.

To reinstall the drivers for your device

Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus controllers (USB section) of the Device Manager window.
Look for an MTP Device: Media Device, Unknown Device or any other reference to your phone. Click on this entry and choose "Uninstall" whilst leaving the device connected.
Wait a few minutes, and the computer will reinstall the drivers for the device.
Now, the phone is accessible via Computer/My Computer on your computer."

I tried that too , thankls though.

I think the problem is something to do with the media card on my pc now. All other usb's are working but there seems to be a problem with the SD slot and CF card slot etc.

Not got a clue where to start but thanks anyway  🙂

Ok despite the fact my media card is showing an error it is reading everything, SD cards, USB's  - anything I connect to it other than my mobile.

I still get the PC companion prompt saying I have connected my phone so to launch PC companion, except when I do it can't detect the phone.

Any other ideas?
