I am posting this in the hopes that someone has had the same problem (actually the only real problem since upgrading to lollipop) that I am having with my Xperia Z1 and can give me some insight into it. I'm not sure if the issue is software or hardware related, however, after reading this post and installing the SoundAbout app advised my headphones are working to an extent which could indicate that it is a software issue.
The issue itself was odd, it didn't happen as soon as I had upgraded the phone software, more like 15hrs later. I had been listening to music as normal on my way into work for about 30 mins, and then it just stopped and when i hit play again it came from the phone speaker rather than the headphones and after that neither they, or any other headphones or speakers I tried would work.
Over the weekend I realised that I could get the headphone to sort of work if i plugged them in almost but not quite all the way, however, this was somewhat impractical as it meant they would A) Become unplugged very easily and B) After a few songs it was like the phone stopped sending anything in the way of Bass to the headphones. The really odd part was that as soon as the jack was fully seated, the music would just stop playing as if I had unplugged them and would play from the phone speaker if I pressed play again.
Anyway, as I said I have just read the post linked above, and once I had installed the SoundAbout app I can plug in the headset and click the widget and it detects the headphones and plays the audio through them, alas it is not perfect as the inline controls on the headset won't work. Previously this would allow me to play/pause and move forward/back in the playlist, now however it does nothing.
So, as my Xperia is still under warranty I thought I would get the opinion of the forums if this was something that would be worth arranging a repair for, or, if it is just yet another issue from the lollipop upgrade. So far I have tried a full factory reset, and a repair using the PC companion software, neither of which have had any effect and I also tried playing music before reinstalling any of the apps on my phone so I am fairly certain its not one of them causing it.
As a last resort I was tempted to try and go back to the last kitkat update, but as my phone is still in warranty I wasn't sure it was worth the effort of doing so if I am just going to have to send it off to be fixed.
Any thoughts/Suggestions would be welcome.
i found my earphone socket had filled with a bit of pocket fluff, and it meant the jack did not always get correct contacts... use a torch to see if its all shiney in there or if there is a bit of pocket fluff... being water proof that socket is more likely to exposed to "wet" air than a normal phone... and if it gets damp, pocket fluff turns to porrige !
