Xperia Z WiFi signal issue

Hello,

I have bought the Xperia Z 1 week ago, it's a good device, except the WiFi.. It has very poor signal for the WiFI networks, I have to be near the router to get the good signal quality.. if I put the phone besides my VAIO laptop, my laptop detect 15 available wireless netwroks and my phone will detect only 3 or 4, and the ones which the phone detected has lower signal quality than the laptop... I never had the same issue before with any of my phones.. this is really making me upset.. any idea??

Is there something I can do to fix the issue?

Thanks in advance.

I was one of the first posters on this issue as a Day 1 owner of the Z.

I thought I should just put my final words in as im going to unsubscribe from this topic on here as I cant ever see a solution being released by Sony (not here in this forum anyway, maybe an update? One can prey.. but I wont hold out anymore)

In the end I have indirectly resolved the issue of immensly poor wifi signal by purchasing high end dual band tri antenna WiFi router with an extraoridinary broadcast strength.

I now have nearly full signal around the house on my Z.. but it cost me £150 in extra hardware to achive this. So factor that into your Z expenditure if you want a normal WiFi service.

I guess the only upside is I can now use my other sony devices like my laptop a few hundred miles away on holiday and I dont need a microwave oven anymore to cook my food.

Joking aside, to me this issue is just that the Z has a POOR wifi attenna design (think day one iPhone 4 attenna issue) The only way to overcome the drop outs is bombard your phone with a stronger signal. NOTHING else anyone has come up with has worked, not a single thing.

Seriously rubbish product testing and quality controll from a super corp like Sony... My faith is smashed in them. I'l live though this phone and lesson learnt, never buy Sony phones again.

I have return the phone day 2 I got the Z, totally awful wifi signal, not to mention the water proofing, no warranty on water damage through ether one of the port.

Got myself S4, all problem solved, overall, S4 is better then Z.

I try buy extender but when i knew the speed will be decreased about 50% i change my mind any way i am shock from Sony why they keep silence against this cortical problem.

i am sony huge fan but now i will not buy anything even ps4 i will not buy it except after six months to make sure there will be no problem in it.

for the phone i shift to HTC One and S4 the issue gone with the wind.

Hello, I have also experenced the same problem with this modell. Compared to other phones like Samsung Galaxy 4 on the same network and spot, the SGS4 have excellent signal strength but the Xperia Z keeps switching from excelent to good to poor.

The question is will this be fixed with a firmware update?

Hi, I purchased a Xperia Z to use with my google glass. I chose the Xperia Z because I really like the design of it. However, the interference between bluetooth and wifi is really becoming anoying and is a show stopper. Whenever I start playing some music through my bluetooth speaker, the internet speed just plummet to few hundred kbps. Please give us an explanation and offer a solution. I chose Sony over Samsung, like many other people here, because we have more confidence in Sony's quality, please don't let us down. Thanks!

Hey Xyloeric,

If you read a post I made here back on the 6th of March;

http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/433890#433890

You will see that I was also having Bluetooth/Wi-Fi issues. And I still am.

When running both Bluetooth & Wi-Fi together, my phone connects to and plays music over my MBS-200 perfectly, however, there is inadequate support for Sony's own MBS-100 - anytime I try to stream music over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, to the MBS-100, I get consistent and relentless clashing and crashing - this is still a bug with the latest 4.2.2 update, with the MBS-100 only - not the MBS-200.

Disappointing to see this is an issue, even after 2/3 firmware updates. There is definitely something lacking in this department, and Sony still haven't fixed the problem. I'm surprised there is an issue given that the MBS-100 is a Sony product, however, I'm not surprised to see other people having the same problem with other accessories.

Are you using the MBS-100 or a different brand Bluetooth speaker?

Thanks,

Lemon

Hi Lemon,

I have tried using it with a Jawbone Jambox, and a Parrot Zik, and I am seeing this problem consistently. So when you use your MBS-200, the wifi connection works fine? I have a couple of old bluetooth headsets, I'll try them when I have a chance. I'm wondering whether forcing the wifi to run on 5ghz would solve this problem since bluetooth runs on 2.4ghz...

Sony instead of bringing up new phones in xperia line up, would you please for God's sake take a look back and see if the so called flagship phone is working 'A' ok

The Wifi® seems to be dead, in this phone, It really does suck, please take a good look under Xperia Z's hood, especially on the non LTE versions, its been months since its been released, this time we deserve a good firmware update that can fix this issue. If its a problem with your design or the hardware used, you people should really be ashamed of it and take the neccessary actions that your loyal customers deserve, and change that line up you guys use SONY.make believe

Yes, Bluetooth & WiFi work perfectly together when browsing and streaming to the MBS-200

However, with the older, first generation, MBS-100, I get incessant and relentless clashing and crashing, of either Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or both... One will drop, the other will drop, one will reconnect, the other one won't... When the other one does reconnect, it'll only be 2 minutes before they clash again...

Support isn't prevalent across the board, sadly... I don't know what frequencies are being used, but maybe if you changed things it would improve the connectivity... It would be nice if the 'support' staff advised one way or the other, wouldn't it?
