Xperia Z WiFi signal issue

Hello,

I have bought the Xperia Z 1 week ago, it's a good device, except the WiFi.. It has very poor signal for the WiFI networks, I have to be near the router to get the good signal quality.. if I put the phone besides my VAIO laptop, my laptop detect 15 available wireless netwroks and my phone will detect only 3 or 4, and the ones which the phone detected has lower signal quality than the laptop... I never had the same issue before with any of my phones.. this is really making me upset.. any idea??

Is there something I can do to fix the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Sony Support, please let me know if this is a general issue with this model or it's only with my device unit so I will return it if so.

Also anyone feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

I am having terrible WiFi issues with my new Xperia Z also. I have constant WiFi dropouts down to low signal reception when I am only more than 3-4m away from my base station and especially when im in another room leading to the phone using a cellular data connection most of the time in my own home as the wifi drops out. My other devices such as my old phones (both older Sony and Apple's have max signal strenth and have never dropped out all over my house and outside. Even within 2.5m of the wifi router my Xperia Z shows only a medium strength connection with WiFi Analyzer (2 bars on the phone indicator)... And sometimes the router itself seems to get crash out when I am trying to repeatedly connect with my Xperia Z. This is very odd...

I am on a lone channel (11) in my house/area With only one other Wifi point in range (Chan 6) So thats not the issue, nor is the transmitter strength. I can use my other phones and laptop over 25M away outside in the garden though 3 walls with max strength indicated on those devices and zero drop outs... the Xperia Z is comepletely dead when it comes to wifi in a third of that range.

Definately something wrong my my new phone here :/... im upset.

Am I the only one with this severity of the issue? Can anyone from Sony comment?

@rick_2k This is not an issue with just your phone. I'm having a similar problem with my Netgear DG834G V4 router.

I've found one way around it, until they implement a software fix: On your laptop pc set up an ad-hoc network and connect your phone through that. I use a program called connectify to do this - its a work-around and not a real solution, but I'm hoping the issue will be solved by the next update (4.2.2?!).

Ah.. interesting. I have a Netgear router too.. (VMDG280)

Can anyone else comment? Is this a compatability issue?

Im sure my connection isnt great elsewhere either though. I really do hope this is a software issue.

Same here. I have my Xperia Z for a month now, and I'd just received it prior to a business trip. Expecting a proper WiFi receiption on the device, I blamed the hotel's wifi that the signal was dropping. The Hilton Hotel clerk assured me I was the first ever to complain.

I then tested using my laptop, and that was all fine.

I then tested at home, and in my bedroom I have no receiption on my WiFi, where actually all other devices to have a WiFi connection. These are the iPad2, iPhone4S, Samsung Galaxy S1 and S2. All of these are considerably more dated then the Xperia Z, so I'm hoping for a firmware quirk.

This is a very bad problem. Does it happen because the phone is waterproof and dust resistant??

The Xperia Z is a rugged and built smartphone with layers and components materials to make it water & dust resistant. I think that this may be the reason why we're having wifi issues... Am I right??

Please, can a Xperia Support tech reply??

What about data / SIM signals??

I also have had my phone for almost a month and I''ve moved from an iPhone 4 which always had full signal strength in my house. My xperia Z has a lost signal the moment I've moved rooms sometimes, I've had sky go through the problem for over an hour the other day and it's no better after blaming them for poor signal, so apologies to their support team looks like it isn't a problem with the sky router. All my other devices work well, as I say no problems with iPhone either. Shame because I really like the phone and android after a 5 year affair with ios. WiFi connection for me really lets the xperia z down and I hope sony will try and sort out the issue!!

Same issue here, first post is from Abedelhady and dated 14 march! But there is still no reply here from any sony dude? Does the radiosilence (or is it wifi silence?) means sony is working on a fix and cannot comment on it? I mean, this forum is called "support forum" ! I dont think that means we users have to support ourselves one and another or does it?
