xperia z hard reset

i want to hard reset xperia z because i dont know the unlock pattern. ive tried the hold power + volume up but no recovery menu or anything like that. also when i have tried that i have waited for the 1 vibrate and then 3 vibrates but the screen is just blank so is there actaully anyway to completley restore/reset the phone back to factory state without accessing the phone itself.

1) try hard to remember

or

2) repair your phone with Sony update service

doing so will delete everything in your phone
