Hi all,
First post here, hoping to find out whether these are universal bugs (and that Sony are aware and working on fixes!) or if it's just me!!!
Pre-ordered my Xperia Z, picked it up 28th Feb (along with my very lovely free headphones) and overall I'm pretty happy with the handset just a fews bugs that are annoying me...
1. I can't enter UK postcodes into Contacts. This was the first issue I had and assumed it was a dodgy handset, so took it back to Carphone Warehouse. However, we tried it on another 2 handsets and they had the same issue. I did report this to Sony who said it would be "escalated" and I'd receive some feedback in 3-5 working days. It's been 8 and not heard anything from them. The work around I've found to work is this(bit messy!) - create the contact in another handset (I used my wife's iPhone) and send it to your Xperia by text message. On the Z, open the .vcf file attached to the text and create as a local contact. This puts the UK postcode in the correct field (but you can't edit it, so get it right in the first place!).
2. Voice level in navigation is way too low. Having music playing at the right level, you cannot hear the navigation voice! Turning volume up makes it impossible to listen to music without going deaf. Couldn't find anything in setting to increase just navigation volume. I did solve this myself by installing SVOX Classic TTS, as this has settings allowing increase in speech volume. Hope that helps anyone else with the same issue. Could still do with a proper fix from Sony tho.
3. I had some issues with stuttering/freezing during music playback. This only appears to be on tracks encoded as mp3 tho? To explain... I've moved from iPhone, so all my music is in iTunes encoded as mp4. Some of my older music is DRM-protected (.m4p) files and these cannot be transferred to Z (MediaGo doesn't recognise them) unlike the unprotected files (.m4a). I used SoundTaxi to re-encode the original files to mp3, so that they were discovered by MediaGo and could then go over to the Z - however, it became apparent that these were the files that kept skipping/freezing. I've now used SoundTaxi again but this time stripping the DRM and re-encoding as mp4 (so they now also have the .m4a extension). These files transferred over to the Z play fine. Hope that's of help to anyone else suffering the same issue?
4. Estimated standby time displayed in power management is wrong? Stays the same whether Stamina Mode is turned on or off. Initially this worked fine (i.e. estimated time increased when turning Stamina on) but seems to have stopped. Stamina Mode still works, just the time displayed is wrong. For example, yesterday I used 25% of the battery over 13 hours.... but the estimated standby for the remaining 75% said 11 hours!
1. Very strange, not sure why you'd do that unless you're using the phone for business? There is a 'Notes' field on every contact which allows you to enter any information you like about that contact, surely you could put any Postcodes in here? There's also the option for a 'Custom Field' under the 'Postal Address' option when editing a contact and adding new fields. Surely you could create a 'Custom Field' for Postcodes?
2. Don't use this feature.
3. I rarely experience any skipping out of the ordinary, but I have documented a pretty dodgy WiFi/Bluetooth issue here; http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/436003#436003
4. Stamina mode is rife with bugs... When I first powered up the phone, I had a battery life of 4 days and 23 hours (on 100%). Over the next few days (despite the fact that a battery should improve following a few charging cycles) the battery life dropped to 1 day and 12 hours (on 100%). I then repaired the handset, and my battery life shot back up to 4 days and 20 odd hours (on 100%)... However, now, about 5 days after my repair, the battery life has dropped to 2 days and 8 hours.
There's no real reason for the huge differences in estimated battery life... Though as a rule of thumb, I'd say with minimal usage, I'd get 2 days out of the phone. As things are, using WiFi and Bluetooth pretty much all the time, I'm getting about 12+ hours out of the phone every day.
You can find an possible explanation to why your Stamina mode acts the way it does here: http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/154243#154243
About the post code this have already been forwarded and I will send some feedback about the navigation voice as well.
