Xperia V won't let me call, and/or noone can call me

Hi folks,

I've got a new Xperia V, firmware is updated.

The problem that I encounter, and that is so to say rather vital for the device, the 'V sometimes just sends incoming calls to my voicemail, at the same time the 'V won't let me make any calls. I have used the same operator for about 25 years. So nothing new on that side of the wire.

Indicator says that I am connected to my operator "Telia" signal strength is good. But the signal meter never changes, so even if I am in the basement where I know is way out of range, the signal meter is as happy as if nothing has changed, still showing full signal strength.

There is no way for me to know when the 'V has locked me out from the world, only way that I notice it is when I am trying to make a call.

Only way to get the 'V to start working as a phone(!) is to either restart the phone, or make a roundtrip to flightmode.

So, Sony, what's going on, how will you solve this?

Cheers,

Stefan Gemzell

I have now isolated the issue "No network".
It always happens after the following steps:

  1. Connect Xperia V  (4G mode) to my Windows7 /
64bit laptop with the Win-application Sony PC companion  v2.1 (through the
    USB-connection).
  2. Then put on the Xperia function: "InternetSharing_USB-link"
  3. Then Internet surf as long as I need.
  4. Then cut the USB-connection

This actions trigs the issue. Not directly, but after a "while".

Otherwise it’s a great phone! Really fast 4G connection and OS, greate touch screen, camera, Walkman fuctions, RDS radio and so on.. 🙂

But it’s worth nothing, if not this basic phone functionality is fixed.

By the way:
This need for manually activate the InternetSharing_USB-link
every time is really a stone age function.
Seamless is the usability keyword for 2013

The phone shall of curse put it on automatically…like
IPhone does;-)…perhaps in next Sony-Android release?-)

Good job MikaelStrom.

There are enough information to start a investigation, @Johan.

It seems like all affected users are within Sweden. Anyone else from outside Nordics???

Update here so Johan can bring it up to his people.

Hi all,

I've got the same problem and read the comments with high interest.

V is excellent phone, expcept for this problem, which makes it useless!!!

Somtimes i can't call and who knows when i can't receive! Except when my wife tells me i had my phone turned off!

Yesterday when it was not working i went into the Mobile Network settings, "network Mode" and tried each of the modes and then trying to call systematilcally. After trying them all, the phone worked?

Am interested to read that someone mentioned "Airplane Mode", which its what is kinda happening.

I'm in Western Australia running on Telstra, no prob's with carrier.

Hope someone can find a solution, as i depend on 100% call access!!

Please Sony treat this as an emergency!!!!

ON/OFF  Airplane mode is the best solution to this problem because it is faster than reloading! Smiling_Face_with_open_mouth_&_closed_Eyes

I hope Sony will fix this bug in the new firmware or I have to buy the iPhone! Crying_Face

Now the issue "No network" also appears without using the "InternetSharing_USB-link" and no PC conection.

I was ice-skating on the lakes in the west coast of Sweden for 4 hours(real nice) and my wife needen contact me without luck (not so nice):-(
Good for me that she is not jealous😉

Until now I have always used the LTE net mode.

I tried for some days to only use mode "WDCMA" for both talking and data traffic, and until now the issue isgone:-)

Conclusion:
The issue is related to the LTE net mode
Both in Sweden through net supplier Telenor, and now also reported in
Western Australia running on Telstra (reported by
barryballsup).

The 4G connection works OK now, for some month without restart or switch to Airplane mode.:smileyhappy:

The Operator TELENOR, have updated their network. It was in "Test mode before":smileyconfused:.

So the issue seems to be in the  4G network and not the cellphone.

I am having thre same problem in Germany!

Because my provider does not offer any LTE service this might not be the reason for me.

The phones details are nice, but with this bug it's not a reliable phone.

Same here in Sri Lanka. Mobile network goes off after some time with hspa or 3g with data. I think the issue is not there when we disconnect the data network. Maybe the chipset is overheating.

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead because my new Xperia V is suffering from the same problem.

It happens ramdomly, both connected to 4g and 3g network. I can't recieve incoming calls and I can't make outgoing calls. The connection meter shows nothing wrong. Restart or turning flight mode on and the off again fixes the problem. My provider is Telenor in Norway.

Any news on this issue?
