I have a Xperia U phone and had updated my phone to ICS one month back as soon as it was available.Although the new ICS update has improved many a features of the phone and made the device faster I am sorry to say that the update is having many silly issues.I wanted to know whther the issue is faced by others also having XPERIA U with ICS and whther there is any way to overcome it.The issues are listed below.
1.Unable to delete media files
After the ICS update I am unable to delete video files form gallery(movies).Currently using Andro file explorer for deleting.
2.Contact sending Using SMS
I know this is an old issue with andriod.ie unable to send contacts as text message(not mutimedia) using android. However earlier we could atleast copy the phone number and then paste it in the message to be send. But now the copy number option is gone. Now I need to write it down and then text it it to send a contaact as SMS.
3.Live wallpapers and themes have been seperated
The themes section has now been standardised for all XPERIA series I think. It may be good for most of the other Xperia phones. However it is bad news for XPERIA U users. This is because of the LED strip of XPERIA U.Earlier the themes for XPERIA U,P and S were unique and had a little bit metallic finish with all the themes having live wallpapers. Now the themes section has been changed.First we need to change the theme (for eg Ruby) which will bring the new static theme and the LED strip colour will change likewise. However the new themes are not not metallic looikng and less colour e accordingly depth which produces a less bright LED strip colour. But the live wallpaper colour has been retained with the same old theme colours with more depth and grat fininsh. However the LED strip colour will not change accordingly if we change to live wallpaper. Thus there is currently a mismatch b/w the wallpaper colour and the LED Strip colour. This is an issue unique for Sony xperia U only.
4.Lack of Adobe Flash support
5.Android sysytem downloading files every time connected to internet
6.Power saver mode gone after update
7.Facebook integration has been disabled by performance assistant
8.Battery status does not change automatically while charing. This only gets updated after discharging form the charger or by restarting the device. Also status LED some times give wrong colour.(ie shows blue sometimes)
9.Even after removing from the recent apps list some of the apps are still running in the backruond which really nullifies the new change.
10.Performance issues with games.
I also wanted to ask a generic question about the RAM for XPERIA U.IS IT 512 or 385 as the system shows only 385.
Plase answer for these issues
I dont agree with this at all.A less specked sony xperia J and equally specked Xperia go is getting jelly nean update then why not xperia u.if not jelly bean sony should atlest bring out another ics update to solve the issues.there is no use in announcing new updates to ur phones if u cant even solve the existing issues. And for that matter I disappointed to say that sony wont reach anywhere with xperias and their upcoming series if auch is the condition of their current phones.I personally wont recommend an xperia to a customer if such is is state of one of largest sold and most popular phone of sony in the mid range sement
I bought two Xperia U's a couple of months ago, with the idea being to replace my two rather aging Xperia Rays. I only just started (begrudgingly) using them on Gingerbread because I'm still waiting for the ICS update to be deployed in Saudi Arabia. Naturally, I still prefer using the Rays, on account of them already running ICS.
Someone mentioned the size (or lack thereof) of the U compared to most other Android handsets from Sony and other makers, which is exactly why I went for the U (and the Ray before that.)
That said, having read through this thread, I'm not even sure that I want to update either U to ICS anymore - which probably means that I just threw away a good chunk of money on two Xperia-branded paperweights!
It makes me angry reading that people are still stuck with this headache that Sony has 'mis-sold' to cunsumers around the world.
In a rush attempt to gain market share, Sony - as in the case of the Xperia U - marketed a phone for the middle weight devision & realizing from their market research that the majority of the consumers rate highly that the phone have the latest Operating system i.e. ICS, then that is exactly what they attempted to deliver - however obviously this is where the relationship between the Sony Marketing & strategy crew is clearly disfunctional from that of their Research and development.
The phone may be advertised as a All signing and dancing DUAL CORE 1000mhz, but it acts far from it compared to other branded makes and models of phones which are Dual Core 1000Mhz. (And yet half of the Xperia U users out there dont even realize what they are missing as they dont have anything to compare it to usually.
The phone has its own problems and flaws on Gingerbread which they have still yet to fix, But - if your provider allows the ICS update - then the ICS may fix these initial Gingerbread functionality & realiability quirks, but then ICS brings the disasterous Performance issues along which may the already sub acting DUAL COre 1000mhz spec phone act like it is a 100mhz single core - it really is that ridiculous at times - Hence the Uturn in Sony realizing whatever & howee the Xperia U, it clearly cant handle the ICS requriements. (Which this completely goes against everything they advertised & sold it as i.e. BUY NOW, ITS FUTURE PROOF AS WILL SOON HAVE ICS UPDATE.
SONY messed up big time here, and legally aint gonna admit it for obvious financial loss & consumer loss of confidence reasons. They're support line I contacted are also non the wiser the problem with the phone, and just kept saying, stay tuned as perhaps an udpate will be available OR the best is,.."HAve to tried a reset/reinstall of the phone" - which I did about 5 times a week.
As resorted back to my old HTC Desire C phone (A Single 800mhz) which out performed just mere daily interaction responsiveness of the Xperia U I had. For 7 months I fought an escalation case with my provider in the UK on ground of the manufactorer Sony basically false advertising a non-ICS compatible phone & it clearly struggles to operate as such, so then not fit for purpose.
I am now the happy owner of a Samsung Mini S3 (Yes it may be abit more expensive than the Xperia U - but at least it does what it says it does on the description details and as advertised.
I will never buy another Sony product (they also messed up recently with Sony Playstations, selling flawed consoles to the consumer whom then where ignore when raising problems with the sony support line. They are a large organization whom have lost the plot and are out of touch on how to deal with the people that keep them in business.
Go Samsung - you will not regret it - htere is a reason they are kicking ass in the market at teh moment - as they have done their homework (unlike the fools at sony).
Good luck.
I have recently updated my device to ICS...
Problem Faced in GB:
1) Sometimes hen the headphone was connected i was unable to hear the phone calls. I had to restart my device.
2) At the time of charging sometimes the battary didnt update the percentage. For getting the update percentage i had to restart the device.
Problem Facing in ICS:
1) 368 Ram was enough for GB. But for ICS it is too small. So I am unable to use any theme or launcher for getting the best performance.
2) Battary percentage issue is still exists.
Excepts those two problem mentioned above on the ICS section my phone is running very good. It is not slow or doesnt get hang
no offence, but i think u lads complain too much. true, the phone just after the update to ics is laggy, but it just need to be optimised removing a bit of crap and tweak it a little bit. it needs to be rooted, and probably few people dont want to do that because scared to do something wrong even if it is higly improbable. once u get control of your phone it's a new world. the phone is fast and no lag. i always have 130 mb of free ram
