XPERIA U ICS update issues

I have a Xperia U phone and had updated my phone to ICS one month back as soon as it was available.Although the new ICS update has improved many a features of the phone and made the device faster I am sorry to say that the update is having many silly issues.I wanted to know whther the issue is faced by others also having XPERIA U with ICS and whther there is any way to overcome it.The issues are listed below.

1.Unable to delete media files

After the ICS update I am unable to delete video files form gallery(movies).Currently using Andro file explorer for deleting.

2.Contact sending Using SMS

I know this is an old issue with andriod.ie unable to send contacts as text message(not mutimedia) using android. However earlier we could atleast copy the phone number and then paste it in the message to be send. But now the copy number option is gone. Now I need to write it down and then text it it to send a contaact as SMS.

3.Live wallpapers and themes have been seperated

The themes section has now been standardised for all XPERIA series I think. It may be good for most of the other Xperia phones. However it is bad news for XPERIA U users. This is because of the LED strip of XPERIA U.Earlier the themes for XPERIA U,P and S were unique and had a little bit metallic finish with all the themes having live wallpapers. Now the themes section has been changed.First we need to change the theme (for eg Ruby) which will bring the new static theme and the LED strip colour will change likewise. However the new themes are not not metallic looikng and less colour e accordingly depth which produces a less bright LED strip colour. But the live wallpaper colour has been retained with the same old theme colours with more depth and grat fininsh. However the LED strip colour will not change accordingly if we change to live wallpaper. Thus there is currently a mismatch b/w the wallpaper colour and the LED Strip colour. This is an issue unique for Sony xperia U only.

4.Lack of Adobe Flash support

5.Android sysytem downloading files every time connected to internet

6.Power saver mode gone after update

7.Facebook integration has been disabled by performance assistant

8.Battery status does not change automatically while charing. This only gets updated after discharging form the charger or by restarting the device. Also status LED some times give wrong colour.(ie shows blue sometimes)

9.Even after removing from the recent apps list some of the apps are still running in the backruond which really nullifies the new change.

10.Performance issues with games.

I also wanted to ask a generic question about the RAM for XPERIA U.IS IT 512 or 385 as the system shows only 385.

Plase answer for these issues

One more serious issue not resolved even after ICS that I forgot to mention

The Loudness of the phone is very less for the phone even wlie connecting a standard headset. The loudspeaker loudness is also vey low when compared to most of the Xperia phones.

Some of the points you bring up is according to specification but I would like to know how many of the issues that you report that remain after reinstalling the phone software using SUS.

Let me know.

Thanks Johan for the link..Surprisingly none of the issues have been solved afer the update..

Also please do note some other issues for the phone after the updation

11.Cant share mp3 files from walkman main list..However if I make a Favorite list, the files can be shared form that list.

12.Camera quality has decreased After the update.

3.Why cant I use the front cam for making 3G calls?

Also please look into the points 1,2,&12 of the question more seriously as all these can be easily solved. These issues are only faced for Sony Xperia phones after updation to ICS.I have checked both Samsung and HTC phones having ICS and none of them have this issue.

Also please check for the theme issue which is unique for Sony Xperia U.

Can any of the manufacturers tweak the OS so that the contact sending can be done using text SMS as this would be of huge help for many users.

Apart from the above mentioned issues, I m facing following issues in Xperia U

  1. No Notification (Sound / Led light) for SMS or Facebook updates
  2. Sometimes No ringtone for incoming call
  3. If you are with headphones, you are not able to listen to the speaker even when you remove the headphones. Multiple restart solves the issue for while.

If the basic functionality of call and SMS is neglected what is the use of using the phone.. ??!!:smileyangry::smileycry:

Johan,

My friend has a Sony Xperia Mini Pro and with his update to ICS came the possibility to secure the phone with a kind of face lock. Is this face lock coming to Xperia U or not?

The ICS update just kills the Xperia U in terms of performance, it forever laggs & hangs & is painful to use (It cant handle the ICS version update as I have now updated to it twice to confirm this & on both occasions had to send it back into the repair centre to revert it back to - although still not perfect - the more manageable Gingerbread.

So frustrating being stuck with this phone now as had it longer than a couple months and cannot return which was simply for the fact that there were updates in the pipeline being promised to fix the phones problems with its Gingerbread & inevitably the eventual promised ICS release so of course I hung in as still liked the phones design and compactness (And at the time thought to be value for money).

Now cant use sitting there waiting ICS and instead stuck on Gingerbread which still has its own problems of phone freezing and app crashing ..  Grrrr so irritating (And all Sony Support keep telling you is to RUN the REPAIR process from their Companion software, I have honestly done this about 10 times since having the phone for 4 months on botht he ICS & Gingerbread versions, and again the same problems persist - I'm exhausted from configuring this phone over and over again!!).

I'm going back to the phone store I bought it from to return it now to them for the 3rd time, and will be bring all my examples & logged dates of the Phones functionality problems & failures with me to state a clear case of 'not fit for purpose', as I'm definately not gonna be leaving with this phone again thats for sure!!

Heres a couple probs still persisting on the Gingerbread version I expereinced this week alone:

*

Received call whilst listening to music, but there was no usual ringing, but instead everything just went silent and saw on the handset an incoming call. (I ignored the incoming call, and when it stopped ringing the music didn't come back on, although it showed as playing ?? (starting & stopping the app didn't resolve the issue - nor force closing the music player, eventually had to reset the phone).

Later on received another call whilst listening to music, everything went fine & I answered the call ok and got to about the first 5 seconds of my conversation with the caller before it dropped them ? (They where calling from a landline and I wasn't moving with my phone ??

(but interestingly now the music at least returned post a call which it didnt earlier)...will keep an eye on the dropping call thing.

**

listening to music and browsing twitter, many times a distorted disruption to the music whilst browsing the twitter newsfeed.  Eventually the phone rebooted itself.

***

Latest is when trying to open the likes of BBC Iplayer, or FaceBook or even my Gmail (random Apps) but 50% of the time the 'FORCE Close' App prompt is displayed and the App fails to start untill trying again (Sometimes a 3rd time).

****

Does anyone elses Xperia U distort the music your are listening to whenever your bring it out of Standby i.e. push teh Power button to turn the screen on??  (Grrrr soo irritating having this blast of discomfort through your earphones!!)

That's why they stopped JB upgrade for XU. GB is the best choice in terms of XU specifications. What's the point of having the latest Android if it kills your phone?
