Xperia T Doesn't Charge After Installing Android 4.3

Back in May 2013 i took out a contract with the mobile provider Three. Everythings been perfect up until recently installing Android 4.3 to my phone. I noticed that my phone wouldn't accept charge from the mains and its battery level was depleting a lot faster than before the update. Inevitably it died pretty quickly after a couple of hours.

My phone wont turn back on now and i know its nothing to do with the charger itself because ive used different chargers along with the one i was provided when i purchased the phone and the red light flashes without the charger plugged in but stays on while i hold the power button with the charger plugged in.  Every now and then i can get it to power up but only through having a charger connected to the mains and yet before it even fires up properly i get the battery low sound coming from the phone and it shuts down. Once in a blue moon i get to the unlock screen but the phone is already showing the "shutting down" thing on my screen. Also whenever i do get to this stage my phone often has no signal even when im outdoors in places i usually get signal and the battery icon is also red and showing no signs of recieving charge. However i have once had it say "charging 1%" above the phone unlock keypad but only once and it died as soon as i put the phone down.

I have tried using the PC Companion software and the Update Service software to no avail. The software requires that the phone have at least 50% battery to even begin repairs or updates so i didn't get far with trying that. I have also tried holding down the power button along with the volume down button for a quick reset and that can get it to turn on every now and then like i said above but i still have the same issue of it just shutting down as soon as it gets to the keypad unlock part before i can even type my pass code in.

I have also tried taping down the power button so that it keeps the red light on while its on charge at the mains, this didn't work neither.  Ive tried holding down the power button with the volume up as well and this provided results that were no different. I also tried just leaving it to charge with the phone off in the hope it eventually recognises the charger but this still hasn't worked. I Know that it can sometimes take up to 30 minutes for it to recognise it and its only supposed to take upwards of 2-3 hours to fully charge it and i had left it for a day easily.

Another thing i tried was taping the power button down to make the red light stay on then turn the charger on and off at the mains a few times to see if that made a difference but it didn't. (i read somewhere else on these forums that they tried this and it worked)

Ive been searching for answers for a couple of days now and im stumped on what to do next.  Every search result on Google has had someone with a fault like mine but at the same time completely different due to small differences. I haven't found a single post on the internet with someone sharing the exact same issue as me. I don't really want to be sending my phone off to Sony and if there's a possible method i haven't tried yet that someone wants to share with me i would appreciate it greatly.

If i do have to send my phone off to Sony though i have the slight problem of not having the receipt anymore. I do however have proof of purchase through Three and an insurance policy that shows the date of purchase but the insurance doesn't cover this type of fault.  As far as i know though it should still be under a 2 year warranty as i have only owned it since May 2013 so its not even a year yet but i don't know what the process would be through Sony as seen as i don't have the receipt anymore and im assuming they wouldn't be able to know when i bought the phone.

If anyone could shed some light and solutions onto this issue it would be much appreciated thanks Slightly_smiling_Face

That is quite a story. It seems that you have tried most of the basic suggestions in such cases.I say you try this:

Charge the phone for 1 hour, force shutdown(power button+vol up until the phone vibrates 3 times).Do not turn it on.Download sony update service and repair:

Basically leave the phone plugged in switched off. If you get the big battery come up and red light it's charging albeit slowly even if the battery level doesn't move. Leave it well alone for hours you need to get power level up to do anything now. Don't rush it or try to turn on the phone.

Soon as you get back in do a full factory reset and tick the wipe internal storage option. Let it boot back up and try charger again. I found mine just started working again

Yeah sorry I misread that you'd already left it plugged in switched off.  It sounds like your in the situation I was scared of getting into when mine stopped charging.  Nail biting thinking I have to sort it before the battery runs out.  But then I realised it would still charge switched off so panic was over lol.

All I can suggest is turn on then quickly hold vol-up and power until it vibrates 3 times.  That way you know it's just been hard reset and switched off.  Now just connect the charger and leave it a while and repeat process a good few times if nothing happens.  Mine was really temperamental even for charging turned off so be prepared to have your patience tested.  I've probably done a years worth of wear and tear on my charger port in a couple of weeks thanks to this update!

Just tried doing that after leaving the phone for an hour like suggested and theres no response at all when i hold the power and volume up buttons. All that happens is the red light comes on then goes off once i let go of the buttons. Im stumped 😕

UPDATE:

Just swapped the plug at which it was charging from and it turned on and i was able to hard reset it. It vibrated three times and now im letting it charge for a couple of hours. Do you recommend hard resetting it a couple more times or just trying to turn it on after ive left it for a few hours?

Have you got anything on screen? If not leave it a hour or so but I suspect you'll still be flat. You need to get that red LED to stay on. I hard reset without the charger plugged in and then plugged it in. Kept doing it until it came to life and red stayed on while battery icon seemed stationary. It was only after hours I noticed it had slowly crept up and I had enough charge to get back in.
