hi there!
as problems won't stop on my 3 weeks old SP, i also had this one.
i assumed that the phone didn't recognize the last unplugging of my earphones and was still in "headset-mode" (even if it didn't show me any sign...)
my solution: plug in a mini jack (earphone etc.), wait a few seconds, and unplug it again. my device recognized this process and changed to "normal-phone-mode" again...
cheers,
m
ps: dear sony-staff: i'm happy to do your job!
I would really be glad if you are able to do their work but its not working for me. I have sent my Xperia SP for repair they told me its hardware problem. So everyone who have this problem should go to a service centre fast. Thank you .
@Sony, if my phone is not fixed the next phone im getting is definitely from your best friend Samsung.
Even i have the same problem.. if u got solution tell me
@vijayk088 - Given the nature of the problem, if you have already tried the steps outlined by Uliwooly above I can really only advise returning the phone so that it may be assessed by an authorised repair agent sorry.

I had the same problem a couple of times, and @mixingsuite3000 was dead right about the solution.
I'm pretty sure this is not a hardware issue, the problem is that the phone isn't realising you unplugged the headphones sometimes.
Tested it just now by calling my girlfriend's phone - the ear speaker wasn't working.
- Hung up the call, plugged headphones for a couple of seconds, then unlugged them.
- Called my girlfriend again, now the ear speaker works fine!
This makes sense as I use the phone a lot as a music player, so I am plugging in and unplugging the headphones at least a couple of times a day.
