its DIGITAL zoom not OPTICAL zoom, that's normal, if you zoom when you take a picture it will be similar to take picture > zoom in and then crop it, there's nothing wrong with your phone.

hello, i know its digital zoom but as compared to my old phone xperia mini which is 5 megapixel camera gives better results than xperia sp.

also compared to samsung galaxy grand, xperia sp gives more blur picture than grand....

Re: Noise problem in Sony Xperia SP camera images, Can be resolved???      I checked camera quality of Xperia SP with a few competing phones in photo comparison tool of Gsmarena and it found to be a lot noisy and there was no sharpness. Even I compared with previous year's Xperia P (also 8MP) and found P to be a lot better than SP. What is happening Sony? Many manufacturers are buying your camera sensors and producing great results and compete with your own phones. There was a lot of boasting about the new sensor. And still? I waited a lot to buy this phone and was happy with the specs and price even though VGA front cam and 8GB internal memory was something to adjust with. I still wants to buy this if the camera issue could be solved by a software update. Hope Sony developers take this seriously and resolve it soon. People do a lot of research these days to find a phone suiting them. A lot of reviews are out there. So be careful. I sold my Xperia J to upgrade to SP after its announcement and I am still waiting to buy. Hope you resolve it soon

I think you should post your pictures, also which settings are you using on your camera app?

You see for yourself using this photo comparison tool at gsmarena. This gives comparison between Xperia SP with Xperia P and Galaxy S3. You could see a lot of extra colours (red, green) coming as coloured noise. You could toggle between various images to see colour pictures reaching nowhere near the other phones. They are faded out with no sharpness and presence of noise. This is a comparison with Nokia 520 and S Duos. Those 5 megapixel cameras produce better results with very less noise. Please give an explanation for this reduction of quality of pictures. i know lot of other manufacturers are using your camera sensors. But they produce better results. You may get many other resources for photo comparison and most reviews say SP's camera performance as below average or poor. I believe you could do better with your latest camera sensors. It may be the software making the problem. Please, we need a solution for this. Maybe you could solve this with a software update? I am not a user of SP. But it is high in my list. But a few flaws like this is a dealbreaker. Especially when you compare with competing phones. Hope you will take this serious and find a solution soon.

Seriously would you guys just stop complaining about the camera. I know it's terrible, but seriously do any of you make it a point to look at reviews before buying the phone? I chose the Xperia SP over the V because I am willing to sacrifice the camera for a faster GPU and a larger battery. It's your phone anyway, and I would rather be happy than complain on forums all day long.

Dear Jason,

I know that SP is competing with last year flagships and also some high-end phones of this year. I am trying to bring the problem into Sony support team's notice. We expect an answer for our concern. And I believe a forum like this is a platform for that purpose. SP excels almost everywhere except camera compared to similar priced phones. And I believe that the Cybershot manufacturers could do an excellent job with their new sensor. You could see comments about this below average camera performance in all reviews. If Sony do anything about it, its going to help them too. They have a great camera technology in their hand and have a lot of experience in that field. So we expect excellent camera performance from them. Once everyone used to say that Sony Cybershot mobilephones had the best cameras. So people expect that from Sony. If you don't mind the poor performance of SP's camera thats your personal opinion only. You have a nice hardware for taking pictures. So if something is going wrong in the processing side, its better to get it rectified, right? If Sony do something about this, it may bring a good number of people who are worried to buy SP just because of this problem. If they could do some optimizations in processign algorithms or whatever. As far as I know they have enough potential for solving this. So why shouldn't we bring the point into their notice?

I put off buying because of the same reasons mentioned by Fibz.
