Hi,
Set a timer yesterday and all was well until the timer finished and i couldn't unlock the phone to turn the timer sound off - the screen display was fine but totally unrepsonsive to touch.
So I had no option but to restart using Power Button + Volume Up. This restarted the phone as intended but didn't fix the problem. Screen still unresponsive to touch. All physical buttons work fine and the phone is receiving email in the backgound so assume otherwise the phone is fine.
Question is what to do next?
I was going to run the Repair Phone procedure through Sony Bridge for Mac but have stopped as it says "Personal data will be lost". It also says "Personal data saved on the SD card will not be erased during the update". I know the Xperia S has no SD card but it does have two separate areas of internal memory. So is the area where pics and videos are saved classed in this case as a (virtual?) SD card? Will I lose my pics and videos if I run continue with the repair?
Many thanks.
The area where photo's etc are store will be fine however it refers to installed apps which will be deleted - It will reset the device back to factory settings but it will leave the photo's etc alone
Thanks Thommo, I'll give it a try...
So, the repair through Bridge for Mac has completed successfully but screen is still unresponsive to touch so I guess this can now be assumed a hardware problem?
Now wondering is it's worth buying a digitizer or screen and digitizer on ebay?
Does anyone have real experience of fitting either of these and also, in general, are the screens as good as the original in terms of pixel density etc?
Many thanks.
If the screen is intact and its just the digitizer then theres no need to replace the LCD - You only have to replace the Glass and digitizer as this is one unit - Cost about 49GBP from eBay - Some have the Sony logo and the one's from china don't as far as I can see from the images - The only thing you will need as an extra is new glue - Not glue as such but the double sided tape - A dismantling guide is here Then once the screen cables are disconnected then using a heatgun and a lot of care heat up the screen and separate it from the LCD just like the Samsung glass replacement guides on youtube
Thanks again for your advice Thommo.
Not sure if i'll try the digitizer replacement yet. Could go horribly wrong but I still like my Xperia S and it would be cheaper than buying a new phone... Plus, I find the Z1 and its like too big personally. If Sony could do another flagship phone with a 4.3" screen then i'd buy that!
