Why does the Xperia S has an Ambient Light Sensor but no auto brightness option?

Because it is always on, set your target brightness and the phone will adjust accordingly. Set it to 25% and when you turn the screen on ourside you will find the screen is probably on full blast.

i got the same problem and i didnt found any change in brightness!!

you may use apps like HD Widgets. Put the brightness button in any of your screens and you may adjust your brightness according to your needs. It has auto-brightness option also.
