Xperia Ray ICS update stability question ?

With so many forums of question and answer generated by peers of good people wanting the best for the product they purchase. But it seems that until now i will not update to ICS until a few major bug is fix by "Sony" itself. Have been waiting for ICS for so long and it feels like im going to buy Samsung or LG instead in the near future. Have you seen a phone with good quality of camera and hardware specification but perform crappy due to "bugs" and of course the usual "bloatware" which is useless on many user's phone.

What really bugs me off is the new line of Xperia perform well on ICS with a lower specs compare to Ray. Oh please note Andreno 200 VS Andreno 205 ....

The question is, any of you who update your phone to ICS do you feel it is a "smoother experience" or just "plain cool" but with alot of bugs or vice versa.

I really wanted to update to ICS but in the end i believe Gingerbread is better due to most of the bug being fix. If there is no solution in the end i will just get darn phone rooted or sell it. an XDA member can solve the issue with video, camera and also make it more fluid experience but a company could not. Ridiculous...

Ya I couldn't agree with you more...you are absolutely right on how pathetic the Sony Development team is vs. XDA freelance developers....i guess its more of a 'will' issue - do they really want to fix it & not if they can actually fix it...

with regards to your question...i updated to ICS & am on latest firmware....it can be just termed 'cool' with a lot of bugs....not worth it....the best features for me are the options on notifications bar without having to unlock & nicer interface...but whats it worth if you have a really lagging UI & erratic performance...

i'd say stay on GB or root it & go to one of better custom ROMs...just not worth upgrading to ICS at this time...& I know many more in this forum would agree with me...

Well, same here, If sony would not be providing a stable ICS update, i'll move to custom ROMs.

What we can do in the current time being, is just wait for Sony.

And ofcourse, if Sony will not give any response to the custormers, nobody is going to buy Sony products in future, Never!

2011 Xperia users are totally unsatisfied, then who's gonna buy the 2012 series? Morons?

Ray is my first Sony phone, and I am satisfied with overall features of this little one. Gingerbread is stable, fast but it is not too much to ask a clean, smooth running ICS on this phone; hardware is long discussed on this forums and I think that Sony is trying to force us to renew our phones with newer Xperias.

Well, it won't happen, I am not convinced that Sony can't offer a sleek ICS software for this phone, they can do it with worse phones, so this strategy dictates me to ignore Sony when I am renewing my Ray in the future.

I will very vehemently agree with most of the responses here, dissuading others to stay away from upgrading to ICS. I upgraded to ICS as soon as it was pushed out in India, had a very nervous first week, what with all the quixotic reboots and very lagging UI for 'Phone' and 'Contacts'. Then, as per thsi forums recommendation, 'repaired' the phone and installed ICS again. A big difference, good. But after 2+ months of using ICS have concluded that the upgrade was not worth it. The hangs and automatic reboots have returned again, and the UI lag becomes more and more as the day progresses. To top it, the battery drains faster too.

Though I would not blame Sony for a buggy ICS release, am I asking too much to expect a seamless experience from this company ?

So with all the comments recieve and all the post being answered we could not help it. That the ICS upgrade was an Epic Fail and should be posted on 9GAG. For Xperia Ray fans such as me it all turns out that "Rooting" device will become an favourable option in the near future. All of us ask only for a stable build of ICS with a fluid like experience. Are they going to tell us "Your hardware specifications "Not Enough" " ?. In regards to the 2012 models Ray is still considered a good phone.

The 16th August will be 5 months since the ICS rollout for the Ray began and Sony Mobile is yet to release a stable, fluid, bug free ICS. This rollout was expected to take 4-6 weeks according to Sony's mobile product blog.

After such a lengthy period I am beginning to lose all hope that Sony Mobile can release a stable, fluid, bug free ICS for the Ray. Its seems that Sony Mobile has no regards for its customers loyaltiy or for its promise to provide support for 18 months.

With the split from Ericsson Sony has started to implode on itself. The promises made have no substance any more, and with the recent Facebook fiasco with regards to jelly beans and 2011 Xperias. I don't think we can trust Sony Mobile to fulfil any promises.

As the old adages says "actions speak louder than words" so far we had silence and inaction, this couple with indecisiveness and indecision can only spell disaster. Since the Ray will probably be the last Sony mobile product I buy I will be fortunate to be on the sidelines watching the implosion and thanking myself I had the foresight to get out when I did.
