Hi!
Can anyone do following test? :
1 - Connect your Xperia Neo V to your TV through HDMI out;
2 - Activate your Wi-Fi net;
3 - Open YouTube app and start watching some videos.
I don't know about you, but in my case, wi-fi starts to drop constantly. I need to leave the wi-fi router soooo close to the phone in order to minimize the signal drops.
I also noted that the phone warms up while playing YouTube videos through HDMI.
My firmware version is: 4.1.B.0.431 - Android 4.0.4 updated by PC Companion.
But using the phone watching YouTube clips over Wi-Fi without connecting the HDMI cable won't cause you any drops?
If so check if this problem remains after reinstalling the phone software or updating to .587 build.
Whithout HDMI Wi-Fi stays stable all the time. YouTube videos flow normally.
But, connecting HDMI, Wi-Fi starts to break. It connects, then, after 10 or 20 seconds, disconnects, then reconnects, and so on...
I tried to replicate the problem but I couldn't. I tried using a neo V with .587 firmware and connect it via HDMI watching YouTube. No Wi-Fi drops observed.
OK. The .587 update is not available in my country (still). I'll wait for it and once it's updated, I'll proceed more tests.
I'll go back here to post the results.
By now, thanks for you help!
Bump.
I have this on my Neo too, all firmwares since 2.3.3 had this.
Could this be a hardware fault?
Wifi disconnects when using HDMI, after a couple of minutes it's back for a couple of seconds, then disconnects again.
I updated my Neo V to .587 and the overall stability was improved. The wi-fi signal was still dropping, but only once, after 2-3 minutes. After the first signal drop, the signal stays stable along the using.
Anyway, the main problem was not this. Every time I entered an elevator (and consequently the network signal dropped) the device showed a message: "Invalid SIM card" and I had to reboot the device. After reboot, the device worked well, but until the network signal drop again. And this was happening over and over again. So, I decided to go back to 2.3.6 and this is what I did. Since then, no more wi-fi drops and mainly no more "Invalid SIM".
I have no more ICS, but now my device stays stable all the time and this is what I need.
I tried every firmware possible from 2.3.3 up.
@SonyMobile: Should I contact customer care or is there anything else I can try?
Is there any other problem with your device? How about device's temperature?
In my case, when I was facing this problem, I noticed that the wi-fi signal level decreased before total disconnect.
Can you do this test?:
Bring the router closer to the device and check the wi-fi signal.
Another test:
Can you play games like "Raging Thunder" (or another racing game with good graphics and lots of action) using HDMI out?
Good luck!
No temp issues, even when overclocked to 1,4 GHz.
I can't bring the router closer. It's 15 meter away on the other side of the house. As I can recall, the wifi signal indeed drops before disconnecting. I'm not sure though, because the signal is never really perfect near the tv. (usually 2 bars, but it can be 1 in normal conditions too).
I played a 15 minute match of PES2012 when using HDMI out, and everything was fine (bit of lag maybe).
Have you done any further actions upon this issue? I consider sending it for warranty before it runs out (mine's a 07-2011). It might seem a minor flaw now, but if the phone is out of daily use, I might use it to make my tv a smart tv.
