Xperia - missing the basics

Xperia X10 - an extremely complicated phone and SE support are anything but user-friendly just like the Xperia phone.

I strongly suspect the designer or the product manager colluded with SE's competitors , trying to eliminate SE from the mobile phone market - I cant think of any other reason why a good company like SE would release such a retrograde phone into the market.

I cant imagine who in their mind can think of such useless and unfriendly features as in Xperia X10.

I have used SE before and was extremely impressed by the thought they gave to the usability.

But Xperia is a complete shocker.

I have written to SE Support quoting 10 different issues(will post separately) I had with the phone and they respond with a thanks, referring me to Android market for applications that I may find helpful !!

I cannot return this phone as my seller (O2 Corporate) gives me only 7 days exchange policy.

It took me a few days longer to figure out the phone's weaknesses because I was trying hard to like the phone; now they say it is too late to return the phone as it is working as it should - they say I cant return the phone just because I dont like its features (which is debatable - eg if Gtalk app on the phone says 'signout' , but it doesnt actually sign you out from Gtalk, is this a feature or a fault ?) .

They also say that it is the way android Operating system works and it is just a case of me getting used to the new OS.

I think all of us are stuck with this phone and it is terribly disheartening after spending our hard-earned money this way.

Yes, there are a few problems with the phone, but getting used to it is rewarding. Don't give up on it and on forums of other super phone manufactures you will find many more people like you complaining about their phone. Post your problems and as the whole we just might be able to help.

Hmm, I can empathsise with some of what you're saying. I migrated from an old Nokia N95 to the X10 a while ago. And after about two days I was really missing the old N95 - was thinking that "were's the progress I should be seeing in a new device". However a week later I was a deal more comfortable, and now two months into ownership I'm pretty (80-90% as an estimate) happy with the X10.

Yes, there ARE better phones out there - e.g. the Samsung Galaxy S is just so much nicer to use - velvet smooth and fast, (although how much of this is due to better hardware, and how much is down to the Galaxy being up to date on firmware I couldn't say). Great screen too, (although the X10 is a better looker). The iPhone is more intuiative and has better media handling.

On the other hand, unless you've got a lemon, then I'd say "stick with it". A lot of my hatred (no exageration) for the X10 initially was because I didn't get the way it wanted to do things - which in most cases are the Android way, so don't blame Sony, point your accusing finger at Google. The contacts handling - especially - is barely fit for purpose. Familiarity reduced contempt in other areas!

A few of the remaining bug-bears were easily dealt with by adding a very few apps from MarketPlace - mostly free.

Anyway, please post your concerns and maybe the community can help you get some answers. It'd be nice to have a route into SE themselves, but they're too busy pimping the devices to "celebrities" to bother with the poor folks that bought the phone with their money. Not that I'm singling SE out for special attention, in my experience Apple are quite similar.

It takes tame to be comfortable with the phone. Don't worry you will start loving it soon. Wait for the update.
