Hi,
Anyone experiencing issue with ugly-looking picutres, captured using M5? My old M4 makes better photos even in dark places.
Xperia M5 camera - 21.5 Mpx
Xperia M4 Aqua - 13 Mpx
What is happening?
Edit
On M5 the photos taken in dark are more blurred than M4's and the "grain effect" is more visible on M5.
My M5 is using Android 5.1 (30.1.A.1.55). Model no. E5603
Data of camera app cleared but it does not solve the problem.
Photo captured using Xpieria M4: http://i.picorator.com/N1QwX.jpg
Photo captured using Xperia M5: http://i.picorator.com/RmjEv.jpg
On both phones I used the automatic mode 16:9
Btw. When I was about to capture a photo I always cleared the lens, just to make shure the is no dust or fingerprints.
EDIT:
I've done factory reset but still... the same problem.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
I too have the M5 and am quite dissapointed with the camera results.
However I have some interesting observations.
1) This is common across devices, I exchanged my device and still have this problem.
2) It has something to do with the focus algorithms
3) Front and Rear have slightly different faults.
Thoughts on 2 and 3:
Focus Type
Basically it appears that the dual focus does not work as intended.
I tested using 2 apps, the Sony app and FV-5.
FV-5 appears to only use contrast detection AF, Sony also (or only?) uses Phase Detection AF. I assume this based on Focus speed.
Front Camera
Like others report, the front facing Cam on the Sony app only focuses very close, so even a long arm reach away and photos are out of focus, but close up (so face fills whole screen) image VERY sharp and clear.
Switch to FV-5 seems to fix this a little
Focus Depth
Neither camera appears to focus anywhere near infintity, so only close up objects are in focus. FV-5 appears to increase the focal distance, but maybe by only 10 metres on the rear camera.
So wheras before I thought it might be hardware issue, I think it is software / firmware.
If I am wrong, then I will change my phone to a Z3C as similar money.

Looked really like focus problem, can you take another shot, but with the fence in the middle of the picture?

Not at the moment because I sent it to the service. I told that there is a problem presumably with autofocus. When I receive the phone I will write what was the problem and how it was solved by the service.
I haven't received my M5 yet but I can track the status of the repair via wsupport website.
They wrote that the new firmware was installed (or maybe just an update). There also was done some kind of mechanical repair of the back lens.
They also have attached an image of the water resistance test: http://shop.w-support.com/pl/h2o_file_pl.asp?File=2016/ER/04/65165010298001.jpg
Well it says passed but maybe someone could explain to me this a bit? What those number mean? Does it mean that the phone is 100% water resistant after the repair?
