My phone is just over four weeks old - I've taken excellent care of it, not a scratch on it!
Last week my phone was charged to about 80%.
When I woke up in the morning the phone was completely unresponsive. I couldn't switch it on at all. (Usually takes about four-five days to discharge my phone from a full charge, I hardly use it).
I plugged it into the mains using the charger and cable which came with my phone but nothing happened.
I have tried plugging it into my laptop and again nothing happens - my laptop does not acknowledge that anything has been plugged in and the screen doesn't display anything.
One thing which happens when I plug it into my laptop is that the LED on the front of phone blinks red slowly. It does not do this on the mains.
I have taken the battery out for a few hours and then tried but nothing has happened.
I have no idea what to do.
Anyone any ideas? Very frustrated....
Sorry to hear that you have problem with your phone.
First try to remove the battery and replace the battery, connect your phone to the charger and let the phone charge for a couple of hours. Try again to start the phone.
If problems persist I recommend you to try a repair of the phone software:
Click on this link to get Sony PC companion:
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
Start PC companion, start "Support Zone", start "Update phone software" and click on "Repair".
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Let me know if you are still having this issue after the repair of the phone software.
Many thanks for your reply regarding the problem I'm having with my phone.
As I stated in the message I have already tried removing the battery several times and tried recharging for a couple of hours but the phone remains unresponsive.
It is also unresponsive when I plug it into the USB on my laptop. The laptop does not recognise that a USB device as been connected. This happens on other computers in my workplace.
Unfortunately I am currently at work on a ship deep sea and have limited bandwidth and am unable to download a file of this size as it is restricted by my company. I fear that even if I were able to download the software that it would not help as my laptop (nor any other computer on board) recognise that a USB device has been connected once it is inserted into a USB socket.
I am also out of the UK / Europe for the next two to three months and will be unable to send my phone anywhere for repair should this be needed. (Although I can't think what it is that could be wrong which would warrant need for a repair).
The only thing which happens upon connecting the phone to a USB socket on a laptop/computer is that the LED on the front of the phone blinks red.
Is the red LED blinking a code for some kind of error / problem with the device?
The LED does not blink when I plug the phone into the mains charger.
Best regards,
Brian
Hi There
I just wondered if you resolved your problem, i am having the exact same issue I have not backed my phone up for a few weeks so i am getting really concerned that i will lose all of my pictures etc
I also have tried to plug into the laptop but it is not detected. I have tried removing battery etc too
When i connect via a mains charger nothing happens
Any advice would be great and i hope we both get our phones sorted asap
Hi Eleri,
Sounds like exactly the same problem. I wonder if any other users of Xperia J are experiencing the problem?
My phone is on Vodafone if that makes any difference. It was purchased from a Vodafone store in North Wales.
I also have the same concerns as you regarding data (photos, contacts, messages etc) stored on my phone.
As Sony have not been of much use at all in responding to this issue with any valuable help, I contacted Vodafone directly. I'm going to return my phone to them when I return to the UK at the end of July and see if they can sort it out.
Which network are you with? How old is your handset? How long have you had the problem?
I really do hope that I can get this problem sorted when I return home. I'm just frustrated that I can't keep in contact with friends and family as much as I'd have liked as I'm the other side of the world. I'm going to have to see if I can purchase a SIM-Free smart phone to keep me going for the next few months! (An expense I could really do without!)
Hi,
I'm still having the same problem.
My phone is not working at all.
Software update of the phone did not work as the device was not recognised by my computer.
Please help - this phone cost me £180 and it has all of a sudden stopped working.
What options do I have regarding warranty / replacement of the handset?
The phone was purchased brand new from a Vodafone store in the UK. It has not been damaged in anyway whatsoever.
I will not be in the UK until the end of July.
I eargerly await your prompt reply and trust that you will be able to advise me of how I am to get the phone serviced and/or replaced at no cost to myself.
Regards,
Brian Williams
