Hey guys!
Since the update to Android 4.0 the notification-LED of my Xperia arc S isn't working proper anymore. It still works when showing the battery status but no notifications (e.g. emails, facebook or whatsapp) are shown. Software repairs or workarounds like installing 'Light Flow' doesn't solve the Problem.
I hope someone can help me fixing this issue because the LED was a reason for buying this phone.
Thank you very much!
Why is this thread marked as "answered"? The problem isn't solved yet and there is no comment from sony support!
I'm getting really frustrated... the bug was reported months ago and there ist still no solution or even an official statement!
Wait for it, wait for it.. maybe Sony will hit us in the head with that long, so much anticipated JELLY BEAN update....
What I have found is that the LED notification only works when the screen is on ie you are active on the phone in the first place. What's the point in that! You know you have an email etc because you can see it there and then. The reason for the LED is to notify you when you are not using the phone - surely!! Sony - sort it out!

Or they'll just keep ignoring customers of the 2011 family.

still not solved!
The email support asked me to make a software repair. Didn't solve the problem.
And there is still no further information from Sony...
btw: I've never rooted or flashed my phone or anything else!
I baught it with Android 2.3.x GB and the LED worked just fine for every notification. Since I updated to Android 4.0.x ICS the LED only works when the screen is turned on. In standby mode it doesn't blink, not even once! Months ago Sony confirmed that this is a software bug. But there is still no statement how they gonna solve the problem or whether there will be a software-fix.
Man, I don't know about your phone, but my ARC S works fine WITH email LED notification ONLY. When it comes to sms LED notification, it only blinks AT THE MOMENT I get the respective text (which is pointless, of course) but no more AFTERWARDS. I see a lot of complaining. I am not trying to defend Sony but I think a lot of people here come and start whining AFTER they 'destroyed' their phone with some XDA so-called software and now they want their ARC/S to work just fine. Get a mouthful of reality and stop polluting this forum. If you own a Sony product, you don't have the right to come here WHETHER/AFTER you changed its software!!!
Update: I put myself to sleep and as usual I was to mute my phone so not to get any vibration nor sound during the night. I did not fell asleep right away and I texted some more. The phone was set on vibration. When I received a message, it vibrated and THE BLINKING KEPT ON GOING, DUDES!!! So, it works!!! Not only the email LED notification.
PS: You try and put your phone on vibration and have someone text you while you do something else, say browsing the web .(not texting). Let me know if this happens to you, too as it did to me. I am looking forward to it!!!

When the screen is turned on (i.e. while browsing the web) the notification LED works fine for all notifications, as you described. When I get a call, the display turns on automatically and the LED is also working as it should. But as long as the phone is in standby mode (meaning that the display is turned off) no notification is shown on the LED, not even one slight blink.
It seems that the standby mode is the main cause for that issue. That may be the reason why the LED works fine in the service menu (*#*#7378423#*#*) but no application can solve the problem.
Still no information from Sony...
I just would like to know if its a hardware or a software problem. Can the repair center solve the bug or do I have to wait for an update? Will Sony release an update at all?
Today service assistant of the chat support confirmed that the LED issue is a software bug but he can't tell why the update is still not released.
He recomennded to install the app "Illumination Bar Notification" because it "might work for 2011 models as well". Apparently it doesn't work for Xperia arc S...
Another support assistant asked me to send my phone to the repair center, because it might be a hardware problem as well, he said. Therefore I'm going to send my arc S to the repair center just in case he is right. He didn't say anything about downgrading to 2.3.x GB!
Well, the customer service don't know how to handle the problem and Sony developer won't tell any information about an upcoming update.
This is pretty annoying!
