Hi,
Well, I've noticed a couple problems. Firstly, with the on screen keyboard. I can't seem to be able to find a way to delete words that I've added as I typed, or misspelled words that automatically added. There's no way in the settings, and I've fiddled through everything. Any way to delete words?
Second, still to do with the keyboard. A lot of times, the period button and a couple others don't respond very well, but only at certain random times. How can I fix this?
Finally, it seems that this is a hardware issue, and I'm not sure if it's a problem or a nitpick more than anything else. However, when I turn the device, I can see backlight bleeding from almost all sides, but it's the left side and the top where it's noticeable. It looks like the screens not in right, and the light streams through part of the plastic where there's a crack. Should I do something about this?
Thanks.
On the keyboard front you can use the back space key to remove mistyped words, the only way to go back is to tap the screen where you need to edit. It's not very accurate tho.
I also have the HTC_IME keyboard on my X8 have a look at this thread, it explains how to get it. It's a great keyboard and more forgiving and responsive than the stock one on the phone. http://androidforums.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x8/219591-htc_ime-keyboard-x8.html
On the backlight issue, I have just switched my phone off and on and don't notice any bleed through at the edges. It may be worth getting it looked at by your retailer / carrier.
What I meant was in the autocorrect and predictive text dictionary. I can't delete words from the dictionary, as none show up in the settings/keyboard/dictionary directory. There are some words that I added that I don't want there due to them being misspelled or unneccesary, and I don't have a way to remove them. Anyone know what I can do?
There is unfortunately no separate menu to delete words added with the default keyboard.
You can delete all the saved words by clearing data in the default input application in the phone.
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Press menu-key > Filter > All > Default input > Clear data.
This will delete all the words that you have saved using the keyboard dictionary.
If you would like to save words to the separate dictionary menu in the phone you will need to tap and hold on the text field when you have entered a new word, then select add to dictionary. Then it's possible to remove the word separately.
Thanks for clearing that up, I have now got rid of all those annoying learned word typo's! I cannot see how you save words in the dictionary though. When you say tap and hold the word then select add to dictionary - where is it supposed to say add to dictionary? When I tap and hold the word I want to add it wont let me tap anything else at the same time. I hope you can help.
Thanks
You should get a "edit ext" menu where you can select to "add this word to dictionary"
Can you give me some software info?
You find your software info in Menu > Settings > About phone
What kind of info do you need? I'm on the Android 2.1 version I upgraded at the beginning of the year.
Thanks
Hi,
I am facing similar problem with my Xperia Arc. I followed steps that you suggested. Unfortunately keypad display style is changed, this keypad display is not good.
Please help me.
Major difference is, keypad skin is changed and i see some Chinese characters for the text/number toggle button and also on enter key.

You should be able to find build number under About phone.
