WiFi Tethering in Xperia Neo V not working

Hi, my WiFi Tethering in Xperia Neo V is not working. I can't get an internet connection on my Ubuntu 11.10 even though it is already connected to my Neo V hotspot. I've tried ping in my terminal but somehow, I can't get it through. Already tried testing it on Windows 7 and other Android 2.3 phones but still the same problems. Even on an Ipod Touch 4th Gen. Already updated to the latest firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62. Also, it doesn't work on USB Tethering. I have no problems with my 3G connection. I got a strong connection and smooth internet connection on my phone. I was connected to Globe Telecom here in the Philippines using a prepaid sim card. What's going on Sony Ericsson?

Do you get connection with the Wi-Fi network that you tether from the phone, but not access to Internet?

In that case check if disabling the firewall on your computer could make any difference. If not check if you're using a proxy address in your APN settings that could interfere with this.

If not proxy. I think that you will have to check with your operator if your APN settings might be restricted from sharing Internet, or if you can use any other APN settings for tether.

Yes, I got a connection with the WiFi Hotspot from my phone but no Internet. Ubuntu doesn't use a firewall. I don't have a proxy on my APN settings.

APN settings is not restricted with my Operator because is the same settings with Samsung Galaxy Ace. I've tested it with Galaxy Ace and it went fine. Galaxy Ace can share the Internet connection.

HI,

I had the same problem with my X Ray + iPad tethering. WiFi was seen as connected in iPad, but surfing in internet did not succeed nor reading mails. Safir (internet explorer in iPad) started to load page, but then after couple of minutes said that the server has stopped to answer.

Then I took my phone and went to applications/settings/Sony Ericsson and (re-) loaded Internet settings, and surprise, surprise, now I'm able to surf in the internet with my WiFi iPad.

This was a bit strange, since I had used my phone surfing in internet earlier without any problems, so reloading internet settings was not the first thing that came in my mind.

Hope this works also for others having the same problem.

This is a problem on several Xperia series like Neo, Neo V, Ray and also Live Walkman and apparently, there isn't any solution around. It should be a bug inside ISC and not from the operator APN, because the Wifi Portable Hotspot worked well using other devices. The only solution people recomend is to install unoffficial ROMs like Cyanogenmod and I do not have time to do this kind of stuff.

How could be possible that ICS has been around for more than a year and Sony hasn't done anything about this issue? I have to buy another phone because this is important problem for me (and for several people), using my device as a router is my only way to conect to the internet.

In my respect, I'll never buy another Sony product. This issue shows that this company doesn't care about their customers needs and they launch their OSs without the adquate suppervision.

Hi,

Everything is fine with my mobile except HOTSPOT and TATHERING.

Well the thing here is recently I updated my Xperia Neo to ICS, after updating I found some bugs in ICS.

Major three are   1.USB tathering

                            2.Wifi Hotspot

                            3.Bluetooth Tathering

When I'm with Ginger Bread I used tathering and wifi hotspot with out any problems, but now I really worried about these..

And Johan there are no bugs from Network side its totally from the device only... i tried it by galaxy S2 its working.. but not from Neo...

Hotspot is such an important thing for me to access net from my Neo to Laptop..

Consider this is an important thing from from all of xperia users and try to solve quickly plzzzzzzzz...

well i  have one solution for this kind of problem because i also got this problem before but i managed to fixed it, 1 thing you need to do is to have hotspot shield installed in your desktop or laptop or any device you need a tethering.. thats all people just a hostpot shield is what you need.. notify me if its help good luck
