Restoring SMS

I just updated my phone a while ago, but before that, I backed-up my messages and several images/videos as what the Update Tool suggested. After updating, I found out that all of the SMS, apps, images, and videos were wiped-out. So I just tried to restore them through PCC, but it always freezes everytime it tries to open the backup file. My machine ain't horrible in terms of performance, actually it is a high-spec gaming rig which I also use in developing and compiling applications, also good in converting videos through Handbreak. So I concluded that the issue is on the PC Companion software.

I was able to extract the contents of the back-up file, how can I manually restore the SMS immediately? I can easily restore my media files(can develop a small utility to automate it), but can't find the SMS.

that doesn't make sense as updating your phone does NOT delete your pictures and videos, if anything it will delete your apps, sms, mms, call logs, contacts but if you have synced your contacts with google you don't have to worry as they will be restored as soon as you log in with you google account and your apps will be re-download automatically.

as restoring your sms > search the forum there are myriad threads on this, I'll see if I can find the steps for you

Well, the application did it this time. Good thing most of my recent images and videos are on my 64gb external sdcard. The other "memories" are in the backup file.

Wilk try that link tomorrow, it is already late night here.

are you sure you didn't reformat/erase the internal memory? because updating your phone doesn't delete this pictures and videos or music, or are you referring to mms? if so, and you only open them but you did not download or save the mms (picture/video) then it will be deleted

I think I'm not dumb enough to reformat them. Data of my old apps are still there, but the images/videos taken with my camera were gone but it is fine.

Well, it works only on contacts but not the messages. Which is the directory for backup for SMS? Thanks!
