This Wifi problem is also present on my recent update for Xperia Active (billabong edition) 4.0.4. Everything was working smooth except that bug. I hope SE would do something about it

Hi y'all,

I'm not an Android user myself, but I'm trying to help a friend with the WiFi issue.

Read a lot of posts and comments and it seems like no one has tried to connect over wifi with a fixed IP instead of DHCP. (assigned IP outside the DHCP range set in router)

It could be that Android doesn't allow for this, in that case I wasn't hindered by any knowledge whatsoever 😉

If Android does allow to set the device IP manually (for a specific SSID) can anyone provide me with some brief instructions?

Thanks and goodluck to everybody

Last time I was standing in a shopping centre, with a free wifi called "Tusmobil - free".

I can connect from the same spot to this network with GB (tested many times), however in ICS it is a hassle.

When I turn on my wifi, many times this network is not discovered or rated as poor signal. Signal is fine, I could connect with GB every time, all friends with other phones can too.

This is a log when I turned on my wifi and "Tusmobil - free" was not detected:

And a log after turning on wifi again - from same spot, it got detected and could connect:

Another example for alanford network:

Here it would loop between connecting and saved state, signal very weak - though again with GB it was working from a greater distance from router (in this scenario it was a couple of metres away - 10 maybe, separated with a glass wall).

In my opinion there is something wrong with the wifi driver. Wifi module is struggling to with connections in public places, mostly barely connecting.

In my school I can barely connect to Eduroam network if I'm not in the same room as router, it will not connect if the signal is not full. Again, with GB I can connect from different rooms around.

Guys i have a major problem after updatind my xperia neo from 2.3.4 gingerbread to ICS 4.0.4.... Everything is superb exept the WiFi. After the update it was working, but when i disconnected and connected again it wont work. The phone shows that is connected to the router, but i can't browse the net or use facebook app etc. What is interesting, if someone write to me on my fb messenger, it shows in the notification bar but i cant open the message...
I also repaired my phone and i lost every single information saved on my phone, all apps contacts and stuff and still same problem, first time wifi works ok, but after disconnecting and connecting the problem starts.... please HELP!!!!!!!!
p.s. My router is working perfecty on other devices, like my LapTop and other phones... so it must be ICS 4 bug, since my phone was working perfectly on older gingerbread version of andorid...

Hi.

I have updade my xperia ARC to 4.0.4 and my Wifi not connect anymore. The problem is the same of the others.

I think the problem is on the Android platform and is not exclusive to Sony. I have a Galaxy Tab Plus 7 'and it presents the same problem when I try to connect to Wifi in the house of my parents.

I got to work setting up my router to WPA2 TKIP instead of WPA2 AES. Thus my xperia connected. Then I went back to WPA2 AES and he continued to connect.

I think it is a problem in the exchange of AES keys.
