Wifi problem after ICS update

Hi,

I have this problem, that when I connect to the internet with my Xperia P throu wifi it will connect but after a minute it will not load pages anymore.

Everything works fine when connecting to the internet with DATA TRAFFIC.....what should i do?

Please help - everything was fine before with Gingerbread.

I updated to ICS yesterday on the 24th/aug.12.

Would it help if i repair the firmware? - and when repairing will all my previously installed Apps be deleted?

I'm from Estonia!

Best regards,

Thank you....
Mario

I haven't tried it whilst out and about yet, but normally I just use HSDPA/3G when i'm out. My issue was that I haven't got a good mobile signal at home so have to use WIFI here. I get what you're asking, Mcdonalds aren't going to let you fiddle about with their settings.

I'll let you know .... but if it works at home I can put up with not getting WIFI in resturants until the next update

Well now i did backup my phone and then reinstalled the latest software with SUS .... but still have the same issue with Wifi? And now all my Apps are lost ... and can't use Wifi connection. Neutral_Face

I'm a bit dissapointed in ICS and Sony - hope they fix these bugs ASAP ....

Make me think that maybe I should have bought samsung s2 although i am a long time friend of Sony (Ericsson). Slightly_frowning_Face

I am also experiencing the same issue. Wi-fi works for a few minutes initially and then there is no data traffic at all. The access point still reports the phone as connected and that is also the status on the phone (excellent signal strength, etc.) but there is no traffic at all. The phone is being used in a corporate environment with a static IP address so there is no DHCP involved at all. All network settings are correct (I am the network administrator) and hundreds of other devices work great on our network - phones, tablets, laptops and even wi-fi enabled medical devices so I can safely rule out the network as the culprit.

the problems started after the upgrade to ICS. I am in the middle of reparing the phone through SUS.

Sony pleas issue a fix! I bought this phone for work and in the board room right now it is just an expensive and good looking paper weight.

Unfortunately the SUS repair didn't fix the issue. It happens with DHCP (on our guest network)  and with a static IP (on the corporate segment). The phone reports excellent signal strength and is associate to the AP and the AP reports the same (on chan. 11). I get a few ping replies from my workstation and from the AP to the phone initially but after a few seconds all traffic stops. The phone is still associate to the AP however.

Needless to say I cannot connect to our Cisco VoIP, sync with Exchange nor even browse the Internet.

If I have time I will see if Wireshark can tell me what is going on with the network...

I haven't had a chance to analyze the traffic with Wireshark yet but I did notice that the phone returns ICMP replies when pinged but as soon as you try to sync with Exchange ot open the browser and go to a website the interface stops returning icmp replies. It appears that the phone's network interface is happy to return ping replies but as soon as you try to pass traffic through it goes down. Is there something wrong with the TCP stack in the Xperia? Can someone else replicate what I observed by any chance? You can issue a continuous ping to the ip address of your phone from a laptop or a workstation with this command:

ping ip address of phone -t

This is realy frustrating. I tried resetting the "settings reset" and the "factory reset" wiping the device clean and still the same behavior...

What router model is it? Does this happen independent of what security settings you use? WEP,WPA or open?

Hi Johan,

My Home TP-LINK router model Nr. is: TL-WR741ND

Everything worked fine everywhere, while running on Gingerbread.

I also so today that there is a new ICS ver. 6.1.B.0.550 availible - maybe this will fix my problem?!

Johan,

In my case it is a wireless network with access points from a vendor called Meraki. It serves a hospital and we have numerous devices connecting both on the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands. We use channels 1, 6, 11, 36, 44, 149, 157. As expected the phone connects to the 2.4 spectrum and I've seen it almost always on channel 11.

We have several SSIDs - separating business and VoIP traffic from the guest traffic. We have WPA2 on the business end of things and open authentication on the guest SSID. The phone behaved the same way on both. It would initially associate to the AP without issues. I am able to ping the phone from my workstation and the AP itself. As soon as you launch the browser and go to a website or two the phone stops returning ping replies. It was even worse if you try to initiate Exchange sync - the ping replies would stop even faster.

At my disposal I have an Airpcap NX card Wireshark but my work schedule this and the following week is crazy and I may not get a chance to look into the wireless traffic to see what's going on. Even if I can however the most useful information would be from the phone itself but as it isn't rooted I don't know if I have access to the logs. I suspect that the "Usage info settings" that are sent to Sony could reveal the problem...

Regards,

T.

Internet browsing, account sync - gmail and especially Exchange, VoIP calls - all seem to cause the network interface to lock up in about 1-2 minutes of use. The only "remedy" is to turn wi-fi off and then back on. Not sure if it is time-based or related to the amount of traffic but it certainly renders the phone unusable or at least effectively removes the "smart" part of it...
