WIFI loses connection without reason.

WIFI loses connection without reason.

Just bought a Xperia tablet Z and am having problems with remaining connected to my WIFI. Initial connection is good and shows good signal strength and works as normal. Periodically the WIFI then disconnects and shows "authentication problem" against the network and needs a manual connect to regain the connection. I dont have to re-type the access key.

I have many other devices connected to the WIFI during this period all of which work fine. WIFI analysis shows good signal strength and acceptable signal to noise ratio. Looks like a bug in the firmware to me. Any assistance would be good.

I would suggest that you first try updating the firmware in your router and/or try the tablet with another router/AP to make sure it's not a problem with the router. The Netgear WNDR3700v2 mentioned earlier in this thread for example seems to have a problem with WiFi drops in certain firmwares: http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=63627

If WiFi drops no matter what network you test it with i recommend that you contact a service location for further investigation.

The WNDR3700v2 firmware is the latest. I have 6 other Wi-Fi devices in the house that do not suffer from this problem. The one thing that proves the Z has a problem is the following.

I have both the xperia tablet S & Z.  I can put them side by side and upload the same 2g file file to both.

The S will get it every time. the Z will fail every time. I have owned the S for amost a year now and i have never had it drop a conection while uploading a file. I have had the Z for a couple months and i have not been able to download 1 file to it successfully before it would drop a conection. Both are connected to the same router and both are the same distance away.

It is clear that the Z does in fact have a problem. Also, I sent the first one back because of this, and the second one does the same thing. So either Sony has some sort of manufacturing issue, used a crapy WiFi chipset or the Firmware is bugy.  Thouse of us having this issue with the Z is not our poor setup but the tablet Z device itself.  This can be further proved that all of us having this problem dfo not have our other devices loosing connection. All of us with this issue only have the Z dropping out. This further prooves that the Z is the problem.

Hi,

Initially, I had problems until I changed some settings in my wifi router (see the other related post)

Since then, I've toured France for vacations and my tablet could establish a steady connection with all the wifi networks in hotels and other public places.

I consider this issue closed for my case, even if the initial cause is still unknown.

Of course, wifi still doesn't work when a bidirectional bluetooth device is paired with the tablet...that's another issue...

Has there been any resolution to this yet?

My table won't connect to my work's WiFi. Just keeps saying "Authentication Problems". I run it past our sys-admin and he says everything is set up correctly, the tablet just isn't working!

My phone (HTC One XL) works fine conencting to the WiFi at work, as does everyone elses iPads and other devices. Just this tablet.

At least give us an idea of when a fix is coming, please????

I just got my xperia Z tablet yesterday and was having the authentication problem. Last night, after spending ages online trying to find an answer and slightly panicking when all I could find was more people having the same problem, I found an answer that worked for me (sorry, I can't remember where or I'd share the link but it wqas somewhere on this forum)...

It seems that it's an encryption problem (at least it was for me). Our WIFI at home (from a netgear cvg824g wireless cable voice gateway) uses WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption- the moment I changed the encryption to TKIP+AES and tried connecting my tablet again, it worked first go and I haven't had a problem since.

The encryption options I had were TKIP, AES, or both. I chose to go with both because it said in the info on the settings page that if you change from one to the other, you may have to change settings in all the other devices that you have connected to the WIFI.

I didn't change any other setting, just the one for encryption.

Kind of the same answer as shadowman21282 in post # 25.

Had the same problems & I think I found "my solution". I had a Zyxel P-336M router from around 2006. It had just done it job without any error or stop before. After I get my Z tablet it stopped now & then. I had to stop Wifi & then enable Wifi again. Just a button on the the of the router so it was about 1 min job but it was annoying!

So I ordered a new router from Asus, Rt-N66U. So far no stop at all Great speed also...

Some where in the instructions I found that it was better to AES instead of TKIP. Can't find the exact text, but as I remeber it was a better way for new hardware to etablish contact & also to keep it...

I have just been issued with an Xperia Tablet Z  by my employer, and am having the problem that my WiFi link is unreliable to the point of being useless.

There does seem to be a problem with using  bluetooth keyboard - once that is paired the WiFi is dropped and attempts to reconenct several times a minute.  Is there any fix for this at all?

I've found that making my wifi connection use a fixed ip address resolves the connection problems.

Run the wifi analyzer app to find out your internet gateway address of your router.

Thats right. I did help me too. BUT that does not help those that use the tablet as it is supposed to be used: a portable device dropping in and out of wifi networks.

While I use the static address at home I cannot use this fix at work or when I visit clients.
