I too am having problems with the Wi-Fi tethering. I have a Sony Xperia Z2 D6503, bought it on Amazon June 19, 2014. No problem with tethering in the beginning, and no problem with the 4g signal at all. When I link my tablet or computer with the phone, the internet on that device works very slowly. If I try a speed test on the tablet or computer it will generate a network error. I am with T-Mobile I had them check my problem. They found nothing wrong on their end. If I connect to my Wi-Fi at home on my home network cable, I have no problem with either. So I am on lunch at work the other day still having problems with the tethering, a friend on the same network with the same plan I have tethered a signal with his Samsung 5. My tablet had no problem connecting to the Wi-Fi signal it connected with a 38 mbps. Wats up with the tethering issue.
Hi Sonydav,
Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
I would first suggest that you try a automatic download of the settings, you may be using the wrong type. Do the following.
Menu > Settings > More > Internet Settings > Accept Disclaimer > Choose network > Settings will download.
Once done, try using the tether.
I hope this helps.
Thanks Jake-SonyXperiaSupport,
I reset the T-Mobile settings. I restarted the phone and linked with my tablet. I ran a speed test; it ended with Network Communication Error. When checked my tablet with my home Wi-Fi with no issues.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks
This could possibly be a SIM issue, are you able to test another T-Mobile SIM in the handset and perform the tether?
Let us know how you get on.
Thanks Jake-SonyXperiaSupport,
I don’t have a different sim card to put in the phone. It will take a few days, but I will go by T-Mobile and get a new sim card. Will update later.
Thanks for your support…
No problem, I hope the issues is something this simple.
Afternoon Jake-SonyXperiaSupport,
No luck, went to T-Mobile and secured a new sim card. Installed it in my phone and set it up. Downloaded the T-Mobile settings for the internet and mms, and restarted the phone. Then check the tethered connection. The other device will hook up to the phone tethered connection. The connection shows to be a stable and strong connection. When I try to browse with the device the internet is very slow to load pages like sometimes over a minute. On a speed test with speedtest.net, ends with a network error.
Just to follow up, I did a complete reset on the phone. With nothing on the phone, I set it to work with T-Mobile network. Then tried Wi-Fi tethering, still no luck. I was very unhappy with the phone and lack of ongoing support. Then all at once a few weeks ago, the Wi-Fi tethering started working all on its own.
