Hi,
recently I have bought a new dual-band router. I have set up the network and since my Xperia Z1C can work in 5GHz ac band, I wanted to connect it to this frequency. My SSID on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz are the same, but on my laptop, I could choose which band I prefer. When I looked at the Wi-Fi setting on Z1C, it showed connection speed 72Mbps, which I assume is the speed for 2.4GHz 802.11n. Is there a way to select a preference for 5GHz band, whem the SSIDs are the same for both bands? Or do I need to change the SSID of one of them and connect to them separately?
I am looking for the preference menu, because 2.4GHz has a wider range over the 5GHz, but when I'm in reach of the 5GHz, it's almost 5 times faster (325Mbps). If I change the SSIDs, I'd always have to select the 5GHz band manually, because the phone is connecting to the 2.4GHz, which has stronger signal everywhere, even though it is not faster.
Thanks for response.
I'm afraid there's no setting for this in the phone. You need to setup another SSID for 5Ghz in this case and connect to that from your phone.
You can have both SSIDs saved in the phone and it will automatically go to the 2.4GHz if the signal for the 5Ghz is low and the 2.4 offers a better signal. But when you come home it may perhaps connect to the 2.4 automatically and then you need to switch.
That is rather unfortunate, but thanks for your response.
