Hello
i'd increase my smartphone security so i'd like to encrypt all my data device+sdcard
Does someone of you already did it ?
What's about system performences?
I'll be able to browse my device once connected to my laptop ?
At least .. i read that Lollipo 5.1 already encrypt the file. Is there a way to check if this function is active on my device
Thanks in advance
Bye
Ale
Hi. I use encryption on both device and SD card.
You would be able to browse card from PC after screen unlock.
Encrypting phone requires use of at least shape or pin protection.
In terms of performance I don't see any drawbacks in general use.
One thing that is worth investigating is that some people (me included) have had problems after upgrade encrypted device to 5.1.1. It optimised all apps on every reboot which took up to 40 minutes. Some suggestions were to wipe the device and start again but people on the forum report that it didn't resolve the issue for them. My tablet stopped behaving like that after numerous reboots.
Hi Sergio PL
thanks for your replay.
Did you update to 5.1.1 once the device were encrypted ?
Basically my smartphone is always on, never reset/switch off so i don't see problem
Thanks as usual
Cheers
Ale
Yes. My device was encrypted since 4.4.2 and always updated while being encrypted (both SD card and internal memory).
Hello
first of all, thanks SergioPL for your suggests !
I did the encryption and it took 4 hours ( with 32GB sdcard )
I don't see any performance impact, no battery issue and it's possile to browse the device via computer connection
I'm facing same issue you post about app. optimizing during boot step
Hope this post will helps someone how needs to decide if encrypt or not the device
Bye
Alessandro
Sorry to hear that you're having issues after encrypting the phone. We are currently looking into the reboot issue where it's optimizing apps.
As soon as i have more information about the issue i will update this thread: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z3-Compact/Simple-reboot-not-possible-rebuilds-cache-on-second-...
