Water damage red dye

Dear sony,

I have recently purchased a Sony Xperia Z smartphone, which is supposed to be water-resistant.

My phone has been wet a couple of times, but it hasn't been submerged for longer than 2 minutes.

Today, I rinsed my phone under running tap water to cool it down after it became hot while streaming a movie.

Afterwards, the hand in which I held the handset was covered in a red dye (little linear red marks)

I checked the water damage indicator strips under all the flaps (which were closed properly every time the phone came into contact with water) and they were all white showing no sign of water damage.

Is it possible these red markings came from my phone as a result of some sort of water damage indication?

I am not 100% certain these marks came from my phone, but all evidence points to it, which worries me.

Yours sincerely,

A concerned customer

We would not be able to say whether this came from the liquid indicators, but this is quite unlikey that the small indicators would produce such a large amount of excess. The only way you could confirm this would be to have the phone examined. However water damage would not be covered by the warranty so if there is evidence of this then this would not be covered by the warranty.

If you look under each of the various tabs for charging etc, you will see small white squares. When these white squares get wet they turn pink and are thereby a good indicator of if the phone has been exposed to water.

I had a weird one like this, I went to use my Xperia for the first time the other day (yes its never been used) and I was about to take it into a pool to get some great shots of my son in the pool for the first time.

Checked the flaps to make sure they were sealed correctly and the liquid indicator is already a slight pink. I would not call it red (I know what they look like when they have been wet) but this was a soft slight pink. Obviously, I didnt take it into the pool and put it back into my bag and coninued to use my other phone.

Whats up with this? This was a brand new, sealed phone I took out of the box, took a flight to my desitnation while it was in my backpack (sperate to everyhting else and no water could get it) and when I do its first check I notice this. Am I alone here or has this been heard of in the past?

Cheers.

My Xperia Z was purchase brand new from Carphone warehouse and yes, one of the moisture indicators was only a pale pink upon initial inspection.
I checked the integrity of the ports under a running tap but they all remained the same which leads me to believe that the seals are still watertight. Even the pink one did'nt turn dark pink or red.

I seriously wish anybody with this problem all the best when attempting to get Sony to acknowledge an issue with water resistance of its Xperia Z. Sadly they dont and reading so many of these comments is like ground hog day... been there, done that and Sony continues to lie and deny.

To cut a long story short (and yes with all flaps were closed properly) I experienced the same problem with my Xperia Z. I now own an HTC One and the repairer has my old phone as they wanted $715.00 to repair it seeing as in Sony's opinion it was all my fault. This phone can not be trusted one bit near water so my advise to anybody is to not get any water near it full stop.
