W995 Shutter Sounds

I recently purchased a W995 and I am trying to turn off the shutter sounds for the camera.  I know many people with SE phones and they all tell me the same thing.  You can turn them off in the settings for the camera.  On my W995 there is no option for the shutter sounds to be off there is only 4 sounds to choose from.  I am sure that there should be a fifth option for off but its not there.  How do i turn them off?  I got 10 days cooling off period on my contract and this, along with a day of wifi problems, will mean the phone will be going back if there is no resolution for it.

My W995 camera does actually have an "off" setting for the shutter sound, so it may be that you need to update the software.

My phones software is the latest version, I have checked several times.

Current Software Version:

1215-7995

R1HA035

091210

SonyEricsson

I got my phone new in July and the option simply isnt there.

I know you can add things to the CUSTOM.XML files but my phones firmware version means there is no software out there to access my phone at the minute.

Any ideas now?

My W995 has exactly the same software, which is indeed the latest version.You could however, still run the Update Service via PC because it actually states that irrespective of whether you have the latest software or not, running the update could still improve software stability and  may add the shutter sound option that's missing and fix the Wi-Fi problems on your phone.

If this fails to work, I would suggest you perform a Master Reset after backing up your phone.

Another option is to choose "repair phone" via PC suite, although I would suggest leaving this as a last resort.

Finally, if the lack of this option really bothers you that much and none of the above fix the problem, take it back for repair or replacement.

I have tried the update via the PC, no update required it says.  I have tried the master reset, no difference.  I dont recall saying I had a problem with WI-FI, which I don't.

I have read that in some countries it is illegal to have no shutter sound so they remove the option,  but I have heard that you can overcome this using A2 Uploader.  The problem is that my phone is CID0081 and A2 Uploader does not support this version yet.

Taking it back wont help, they will just send me the same one back.  Having no shutter sounds option is not an option for repairing,

Has anybody got an answer for this that actually works?

So did you buy this phone in a country which does not allow a silent camera shutter? Otherwise, you should be able to get it replaced from your dealer.I don't see any other way around it without risking damage to your phone.As for Wi-Fi problems, you mentioned these in your original message on this thread.
