First, thanks to all that have replied to my other post. Awesome to see activity on what I will fully admit is an older Xperia model.
Next question- how the dang do I set an alarm that would actually also wakeup the phone?
Yes, I've googled the issue to some extent, but seems that people that never used a Blackberry before seem to think that it isn't possible to have an alarm wake up the phone. It is. All that is required is that there be a RTC (realtime clock) with the proper circuitry and config options for doing this. Blackberry's have had this for decades. Embedded micros have had the rtc wakeup ability for even longer. Yes, it means that a very small amount of current is being drawn to power the RTC and the wakup circuitry, but that's irrelevant
To be clear, the way I have done it in the past on Blackberrys is what I tried with my E1:
1) Go into the clock
2) Set alarm on a 24hr period for say 7am
3) At night use the power button to power down the phone- choosing Power Off from the popup.
I check various settings places to see if there was some kind of "enable phone wakeup for alarm" check box, but couldn't find anything.
I'm probably missing something, so hopefully someone else will have the answer.
Thanks in advance!
I am sorry, that feature is not available on Android smartphones as far as I am aware. It has been asked before. I know it was available on older devices, like Nokia or SE.
Thanks- it seems bizzare to be removed, but your answer does seem to reflect alot of google hits.
I will keep researching this and see what others come up with.
While I am not going to unlock the bootloader as it's a brand new phone, I am wondering if perhaps there is a config option or other thing that can be added/adjusted during the bootloader to allow for this.
I'm very curious as to why this would have been removed as a feature. I know the circuitry is actually present- it's part of the silicon that is used. It can't be due to battery performance issues- I've tested my blackberry and even after being off for 7 days it will still wake up on an alarm and the battery is exactly what it was at shutdown.
Hello,
not possible for android phones to wakeup for alarms (excepted some old models, like acer z130)
the only solution i found is to enable airplane mode with a little app: "timed toggles" to avoid nights with gsm waves
