I have updated my sony xperia sp to the latest software about a week ago. I dont know why and how(maybe I accidentally did it myself) but ever since that day, my homescreen is locked and requires a password. I ve searched it on the internet but everybody's saying that it should be asking for a security question or an email confirmation after a number of attempts but nothing appears to me...i dont know if this is because of the latest update. Please help me, i have really important data on my phone and i dont want to restore it to factory defaults.

When or if you set up a pin it should have asked you for a security question which after 5 failed attempts will ask you for the answer to this question,
However if all this fails then your only option is to perform a system repair using either PCC or SUS found here
Performing a repair will factory reset your device meaning all files will be erased
To run a repair 1st make sure your phone is fully switched off and disconnected from your Pc then start PC Companion and click on Support zone then click on Update my phone/tablet then in Blue click on Repair my phone/tablet and when prompted hold volume down and connect your USB cable to your phone from your Pc - This should begin the repair process
