Unable to wake screen

I noticed a strange behavior of the phone earlier.

I was doing conference call using speaker phone and after awhile the screen went into standby mode. The screen becomes non responsive which is normal. The only button that's responsive is the power button and after clicking, the line cuts off. I tried for 3 times.

Is this a bug? Else how do I get back the screen mode?

Go to Settings -> Accessibility and disable "Power button ends call". You should then be able to wake up the display without ending the call.
