Problem Summary - The process com.android.phone force closes sporadically, sometimes during a call, or sometimes while trying to for no apparent reason.
This is the Force Close message I get - The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. After the process force closes, the phone loses network connectivity. Waiting for a few minutes, sometimes, restores network connectivity other times I have to restart the phone.
I have tried a hard reset, and have reset my factory settings twice as well, but the problem persists. I tried the same SIM card on a samsung phone, and there were no issues with it. I have had the same SIM for the past 2 years on different phones, and have had no problems. And this happens 5 or 10 times in a day, on an average. Also, this seems to have started after the kitkat update.
Please increase this issue's priority and provide a fix as soon as possible. And if there is a workaround that you can suggest now, please do so.
Given the nature of the problem and what you have tried to do to fix it so far, I would advise attempting a software repair as this is not a common issue with this handset:
1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

I have the same problem since I got the phone some 10 days ago. After I got it I have updated all the software.
Still: I get this problem from start.
Do you really expect that software repair would help?
...and will any settings or data be lost during this repair process? PC companion suggests so...
If yes: will backup via PC Companion make it so that after repair and restore from backup all my data, apps and their setting would be reinstated to the status right before th backup and repair with no need for any additional actions to reinstate?
Cheers
Yes it will reset the phone, however if you click on the backup & Restore option on the PC Companion software you will be able to back up most of your content prior to this.

Before I do this:
jungi, did you do softyware repair and the problem is solved now...?
Cheers
I don't have the problem, I am just offering you advice on a likely way to resolve the problem.

Hello, I've had the same issue that started occuring as soon as I've updated to 4.4.4. I've just tried the repair method and so far things are looking good. The issue doesn't seem to happen anymore and the phone feels much smoother, I guess that was expected after doing a refreshing repair. So far so good, will keep an eye for that nasty error.
Hi ,
I did it too and so far so good - the phone and contacts do not terminate with error.
But the whole process, including restoring apps and settings, took me some 5-6 hours 😞
Backup restore froze at least 5 times and had to be restarted.
I had to reinstall apps and say hal of settings manually.
So some mixed feelings after all...
Cheers
