Hi,
I couldn't confirm it, but by thinking about it logically.
The charging thing just work like other electronic items, More power output or electric current. More likely the copper content in the cable may be thicker in order to supply sufficient power needed to be deliver from one to another end of the prodeuct.
The reason why we need the sony cable is because those are the cable we know that is capable to deliver the power is needed from the charger to the device.
I am not an electronic engineer or something, just my point of view.
@Bandolero @jurkas74The sony adapter might need sony cable too, as each QC2.0 adapter is packed with it's own cable. They might work between each other, but it's best to use them as intended.

Every adapter need cable, "use them as intended" LOL, with Sony TV I don't have to use Sony HDMI cable or Sony power cable as long as Sony use standards, the same with USB cable. That's why we have standards and specification, once we had chargers vendor lock-in, but it's gone in favour of USB.
@jurkas74 You don't need to be rude, I've told you that each manufacturer will always suggest you to use their own products and if a problem occurs on your side by using lets say a different adapter or dock, your product won't be covered by warranty.
