Traffic with mobile data and roaming data disabled

I've been abroad for a couple of times lately, and even if I disable both mobile data and roaming data my z3 compact makes several very short (few bytes) connections. This is costing me a lot of money!

No! I'm not even making calls or accepting incoming ones!

That's quite odd, you might want to contact your carrier network

Already done, they say it depends on the phone. There are other z3 compact users which are experiencing the same issue, so they may be right actually!

I think this bug has been introduced by some software update, as it only appeared a few months ago.
