Touchscreen loosing touch issue

I got my Xperia Z1 Compact at the beginning of February and I am glad to have my old Xperia ray replaced by the fast and dressy Z1 Compact.

Unfortunately I am suffering from an issue that is well known by many Xperia Z1 and Z1s users. The touchscreen of the phone looses randomly the touch state which leads to bad words during Swype input and unintentional zooming and clicking during internet browsing.

It seems to me the issue appears totally at random and is not so distinct as it is seen on the two other phone models I mentioned above. The touch is lost occasional and more infrequent.

The facts I encountered so far:
- The issue is not restricted to the lower part of the screen but it occurs more often on the lower part where the keyboard is located in portrait mode.
- It doesn't matter weather I touch the aluminium frame or not.
- long touch strokes will end most of the time after about fifteen to thirty seconds
- short strokes loose touch directly after the beginning
- It doesn't matter weather the phone is hot or not.
- It doesn't matter weather there is heavy CPU load during touching
- The issue can be reproduced using the Xperia phone which is pre-installed on the Z1 Compact phone. You have to repeat the touchscreen test sometimes up to five times to see the error, sometimes it happens successively.

I wait for the upcoming firmware update .142, currently there is .114 installed. No other update is available yet here in Germany. If the issue exists after the update I will return the phone and take a look at other brands - sorry Sony!

Hi Prao

   sorry to hear that,

>are you using any third party keyboard(like swift) or is the default keyboard you are talking about ??

>from when you are facing this problem, is it after updating the software ??

Hello Manjuboyz,

thank you for your answer. The problem exists from the beginning on and is not restricted to the Swype keyboard. I have tested with stock keyboard and Swype and Swift.

It is not restricted to text input but the error is very annoying during text input because there many small input strokes are done.

As I mentioned, the error can also be seen in the Xperia diagnostics in phone settings.

Hi

Nice trouble shooting Prao, i believe you know much of the things, how it work, what i can suggest now is, if you are comfortable ,try to restoring the phone(you will lose everything so make sure you take backup), if there is any software issue then this should fix by doing this, else as per us nothing can be done i guess

you can carry back to sony center where they can physically handle the phone issue, i guess they might help you more to fix the problem, if incase if you find out the solution for the issue, please update it, so that it will help us to help many people like us Slightly_smiling_Face

Has anybody noticed problems during text input with the stock keyboard using swype to enter text?

Can somebody try the touchscreen diagnostics with his Xperia Z1 Compact phone? The diagnostics can be entered in the Phone "Settings" through the option "About the phone". Please repeat the touchscreen test at least ten times and use the whole screen and check if the line keeps visible until the test finishes after ten seconds. That would be very helpful for me, thank you.

Here are some examples of how the issue can be visualised. The blue lines are drawn by my finger, the red circles indicate where the lines are disrupted because of the touchscreen issue, I did not raise my finger.

The drawings are created with the simple painting app Draw and Paint from play store.

Enabling the glove mode in the display settings does not solve the problem.

I got my Z1c replaced today. The guy in the shop told me the display has been replaced. The repair took only six days.

The issue still exists, it is even worse. I will return the phone tomorrow again.
