Timely USB disconnects

I have this most annoying and debilitating problem with my phone.

Sometimes I use the phone to transport files from one computer to another and other times I put movies on it to keep myself occupied in the train.

Now when I try to transfer large files to my telephone it seems to go fine up until some point when the phone decides to stop responding to the computer.

I get the error that the phone is either disconnected or stopped working. The phone itself remains completely fuctional, no signs of trouble.

I run Windows 7 home premium SP1, 64bit

Xperia S is running android 4.0.4, all up to date

Connection with the packaged USB cable to the motherboard USB ports

I tried: - Force stopping the MTP extension service

          - Changing the USB port => worked once but not anymore

          - Turning off the screen locking options

Anyone have a solution to this problem?

How large files are we talking about? Are they larger than 4GB?

Unfortunately not, the files were smaller than 4gb so no FAT issues

In that case I think that you have to try using another USB cable or check if the same problem can be replicated on other computers as well. If yes you should have your phone examined and fixed at an repair center. For more information contact your local support team.
